Image

Bruce came for his suit adn I picked up Dennis and Ann Marie at 1 p.m. Claire drove us over to Acton using Satnav so we went a diifferent way There were 8 baptisms but it was a lovely occasion. Dennis was godfather and at last we got a photo of the whole family. To the George and Dragon for hot food and delicious chocolate cake. Both boys were impeccably behaved and Ciaran did some good colouring-in. Home by 8.30 and dropped off during Antiques roadshow. Watched Michael Wood on India. Lovely Songs of Praise on choral singing from Soctland.

Osterley and Joseph Cullen

To Brent Lodge park to see the animals - looks a bit neglected. Monkeys, blue starlings, goat, pigs, birds, maras. Nice playground and Ciarán banged his nose. To Osterley House for a nice lunch and round the house  with Ciarán counting flowers. Lovely gardens and ice cream. Bought 2 books on Buddhism in second hand shop and Liz bought vegetables in farm shop. To M & S Kew and listened to CDS as C asleep in car - Ampleforth, Aubertin organ Oxford, Military Wives choir, John Rutter. C can wink! Had a great chat about his favourite things. To cathedral via Willesden Junction and Euston for Joseph Cullen's splendid recital. Vierne, de Grigny and JSB with scores. MacMillan and Puccini. He said it was a nightmare getting the balance right and pedals were sometimes not prominent enough. Met the new assistant and had a chat to Martin Baker about SSG summer school - he enjoyed it very much. Home to catch up on emails and watched University challenge and programme on Royal Academy Bronze...

Sons of the clergy

Liz to course on Excel at Battersea library. I worked on the essay. To St Paul's cathedral and we sat in the South Transept for a change - it was not full. There was distraction from a noisy boy and a lady in a natty cap in front of us. Why bring a small child to such a service? Good sermon from the Primus of Scotland. Pigeon flying around inside! Magnificent organ Bach and Vierne. Byrd, Bruckner, Holst from Southwell (but girls not singing!) Mealor from Bristol. The big anthem was Elgar Great is the Lord with its thrilling ending. Walton Orb and sceptre at the end. Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Mayor in procession - all very grand! To Acton so did not go to City Hall meeting about interfaith walks or the South Norwood partnership meeting! Watched Great Ormond street and enjoyed pizza. Started the book on Centering prayer.

Paul Mealor

Last night listened to The Choir featuring Paul Mealor whose anthem was sung at the Royal Wedding and the Proms. Watched programmes on Ai Weiwei and British painters of the first world war period. Woke at 2 am so read about Buddhist teology and eventually dropped off. Swam 38!
