The organist librarian

On iplayer the Prom of Holst Ode to death and Vaughan Williams Martyn Brabbins conducting - lovely way to start the day! We sang Bread of the world arranged by Alan Bullard. I played Poco adagio from Saint-Saens organ symphony and Flor Peeters on Cwn Rhondda and Lasst uns erfreuen. Train times changed again so home in time to listen to "I'm Sorry I haven't a clue". Played Dancing years Novello selection and Brewer Marche heroique on piano. Took music to David Dibbs miserable rain. Great singing and playing from Southern Cathedrals festival at Salisbury Blair in B minor, Jonathan Dove, Vierne. RVW Pastoral symphony and Parry Symphony No. 5 on Iplayer. Poldark came to an end for the moment (sad). Watched Shostakoich, Beethoven and Rachmaninov from prom. Henry came to stay overnight and went off to sleep happily.

Archdeacon Moira told us about Zimbabwe.I rather liked her comment that the problem with the C of E was everybody trying to be nice and not facing up to tough decisions! John means God's gift and he certainly was ready to be tough and speak out. We had a prayer for Windrush Sunday. We sang Benedictus set by John Harper and I played Meditation on Slane by Erica. Thiman and Dubois Toccata. To Purley Oaks on the bus to change the Honda Jazz. We now we have blue one! Very nice. Cleared out junk from old car. Collect for Windrush Sunday 24th June Almighty and everlasting God, we praise you for the gift and blessing of the Windrush generation. We thank you for their service to this country in so many essential roles and for all they have given to the building up of our national life. Enrich our understanding, deepen our appreciation of one another, banish ignorance, prejudice and fear and knit us together by the power of your Spirit who is the bond of love. Through Jesus C...

Music Sunday and great to have Elaine back. Jerry pulled all the stops out and there was a retiring collection. Mentioned by name in the prayers! We sang When in our music God is glorified and Nardone setting. Played Slater on St Botolph and Lang Tuba tune. Oscar from Worth Abbey school will join us to sing bass! Pets service lots of barking dogs. Played All creatures great and small and The Swan and Handel Cuckoo and Nightingale. Surprised to see Dennis with Henry and Molly and he gave me a lift home. Hot. Ar evensong we sang Anthony Caesar's O love divine. Enjoyed counntryfile on royal estates and Poldark. Very impressive women's marches and Antiques roadshow on women.

All Saints. 2 girls joined choir and we sang "I sing a song of the saints of God". Played Howells and Francis Jackson " Sine nomine".  To St Paul's to hear Dave Tomlinson on black sheep Christians. He spoke of Muslims receiving communion. I recall the Holy Land where our Muslim friends shared so much but at that point we were not as one. We need to address those within our churches who are not open and welcoming. Pope Francis has much to say on this. Evensong for All Souls. Played Nimrod, Vierne Epitaphe and Solemn melody.14 there. Watched 2 Poldarks. Swam, Mass, mosaic, tai chi.  National Portrait gallery to see Cezanne portraits and the excellent rehung early 20th century gallery.  Lots of Churchill! Loving "Call me by your name" on Kindle and far better than the film. This book really makes you think about the past experiences one has had or might have had! Watched programme on Sydney harbour bridge and 2 Songs of Praise. To Catenians - horrendous a...

2 people at evensong and both agreed they did not wish to chant the psalm. I played Adoro te of Boellmann and Thiman on Hanover also some Stanley. Jerry thought we could have sing the psalm. As we did not do so for the last 3 evensongs I followed precedent. I think it would have been very tricky to play and sing an unfamiliar psalm. Any way Shona is playing for the summer ones and I do not have to go again until October. I think it cannot last at £40 a go. It all seems so pointless. Watched Antiques roadshow and Poldark was well done.

2 choir members in Walsingham and we sang Ave Maria by  Simon Lindley . I played Parry on Melcombe and Hurford on Song 34. Rehearsed L.J.White Prayer of St Richard first sang that as a choirboy, Andriessen and Mendelssohn 6. After Fr Daniel Trott's first mass with 2 baptisms BBQ.  Linda Baker  and I sang in the Caterham Festival evensong at St Mary's. The walk up the hill is exhausting and I rested in the cemetery and delighted to find tea and delicious walnut cake at St Lawrence's. Brewer In D, Ouseley From all that dwell, Rutter The Lord bless you and keep you, Justin Thomas responses. 3 good hymns including Thy hand O God has guided. Chris Buck at the organ. I asked about the future of evensong in the area and combining like this say once every 2 months makes a lot of sense. It was all a bit on the loud side and some more softer singing would have been good. Lift to station. Had to change at Purley and get bus from Norwood Junction to Selhurst. Antiques roadshow. Pold...

Read the names of 108 deceased Catenians at the 6 provinces Mass at Westminster cathedral. Excellent lunch at the Doubletree. Grand President and Bishop Paul very good company. I had a long chat to Marcella.  Arrived to play for Evensong to find organ cipher which I could not clear so used keyboard and sang everything. I had chosen Vierne Berceuse and Epitaphe which do not need pedals. It was for All Souls. Watched new David Attenborough programme on the Earth and Poldark.

Clocks went back an hour. Woke too early and dozed off. Up in good time left home 7.35 a.m. but on way to station in the car had to reverse up Dixon Road for a white van. Result missed train to Purley from where there was a bus replacement service. To Selhurst from Norwood Junction and to East Croydon. No trains to Purley so got bus 407. On organ at 9 a.m. Lourdes Gloria and Gathering not on sheet so did Murray. For all the saints cut to 5 verses and no procession. We sang "Holy is the true light" fairly well. I then started the communion hymn in D instead of F and realised on the second line so changed to F. I have never done that before. I think the travel disturbed my concentration. I played Howells Sine nomine and Flor Peeters well. Rehearsed for next 2 weeks. Never spoke to Jerry who had postponed meeting about Christmas because Anne Marie had a fall and broke her shoulder bone. Strangely Gisela had a fall off her bicycle and hurt her arm. Julie took posters and had don...

Watched Antiques roadshow and Poldark part 2.

Had some cereal. Went to the doctor's and saw a very nice retired locum who was most interested in the Jerusalem experience. He goes to church at Buckingham Gate and comes from Sri Lanka and used to work in Stockwell. He prescribed cream for the rash which may be viral so must rest. No way I could go to May supper so wrote speech for Liz- very disappointed not to be able to go. Watched BBC young dancer which was excellent and Antiques roadtrip. Louise adamant the wall should come down so contacted neighbour about solicitor. Liz went to the May supper and came back with a lovely pot of lilies. I wonder why Carol got flowers and Ronnie didn't? I watched the remaining episodes of Poldark which ended sadly.
