St Mary's Sydney

Watched Pentecost vigil from St Mary's cathedral Sydney. Good choir and homily. More photos into albums. Framed Mum and Dad's coloured wedding photo. Think it is hand tinted. Spent the morning on Henry portrait. Bellini La Somnambula on from Met bit not really my thing. Roderick Williams singing Butterworth in countryside. Lovely. Richard McVeigh playing at Arundel cathedral. Mata Hari remarkable ballet from Amsterdam. I have 2012 Berlioz Trojans programme from ROH and Olympics.

John Wilson

18 in church. Organ so out of tune I did not play Elgar Spirit of the Lord as a result. Sumsion Cradle song, Peeters Canzona, Andrew Moore and Walter Webber on Lobe den Herren. I have no idea why we are singing Lead kindly light to dreary tune Sandon! As I have been told by email that my contract is to end when the church closes for building work I am now actively looking elsewhere.  Lovely concert at the Royal Festival Hall John Wilson conducting the Philharmonia - Sea symphony well sung, Wasps overture and Finzi clarinet concerto. Sally Matthews and Roderick Williams. We saw Susanna Martin and Fr Michael Holman. We went tith the gallery prommers and enjoyed the meal at the Persian Sigurgh restaurant.

Bach

To Balham and Central music library to get the alst of the Proms scores. To Streatham to see audiologist - it seems left hearing aid was missing the little ventilation piece and right ear has wax hence the whistling. Pre-Prom introduction was quite good involving the kids (not many there) but she did not really tell us much about the Leifs apart from it being very loud and the Ahlborg. Sibelius Tapiola at the Prom followed by awful Leifs organ concerto played by Stephen Farr - devoid of any musical ideas and far too loud unrelentingly so! A quiet modern encore did not impress either! There are so many good unplayed organ concertos - why did we have to suffer this?  Delightful light night Bach Prom conducted by David Hill - Mass in G minor, Brandenburg 2 and Magnificat in D. Home at 12.45. Iestyn Davies, Nicky Spence, Sophie Beavan and Roderick Williams. I listened to Brandenburg 5 and part of the violin suites on TV.
