Osterley

Mother of 4 year old annoyed me at music. She never stops her daughter taking items from other children so I commented! It's about learning to share and learning to ask properly if you want something but I do not think she understood me. Sad really. To Osterley Garden centre for lunch and met Stephen and Meryl Rose and had a lovely chat. To Beating the retreat at Horse Guards parade. Very impressed by massed bands, choir, dancers and Waterloo enactment with cannons and fireworks. Spotted a Catenian but all I can remember is that he is John!

Elizabeth Connell

Liz went off to Vaughan House. Louise had stayed overnight and went off shopping.  I submitted my Dialogue account and did the reading Michael had given me. An interesting article by Denys Turner about "Do we worship the same God" - answer we don't know. To Bloomsbury Baptist for Gary Sieling's excellent recital. Saw Jane and Gary before and afterwards - for once I was able to stay for the tea! A nice programme Bach Passacaglia, Brahms, MacDowell (there is no truth that he wrote this to a girlfriend called Rose who was a bit wild) Clerambault, Stanley, Britten and his own Toccata and Fugue on the Pink Panther theme. Great to have some humour! Then to the first part of Mass which was for new Christians - Alistair sang really badly. Archbishop Vincent. 507 bus to St John's Smith Square for the long awaited memorial concert for Lisa. Saw Richard Wiegold and met Jenny Bacon who is the widow of the first general manager of the Sydney Opera house - Lisa used to go to t...

Liza Connell

To Kew Gardens to serve at requiem for Liza - she was my age. All went well. Fr Stephen gave an amusing and fine homily. He told how she said she screamed top notes and low ones she farted! He also quoted Buddha! He said she sent him CDs for his posting to Iraq for 9 months so reckon he is in the forces. Her cousin Luke Connell served but needed lots of guidance. We heard Panis angelicus recorded by Liza 3 weeks ago - she was so brave! A lovely Ave Maria, superb Samoan funeral song and Meryl Rose sang "May the choirs of angels". Stephen Rose played superbly - she came in to Nimrod and out to "Wish me luck". Great hymns Dear Lord and Father and Thine be the glory. To her lovely home and we drank a champagne toast in sunshine in her lovely garden. A most interesting chat to her cousin about South Africa. The present generation are still in the liberation mode and creating the equivalent of the big companies like Sasol for their pals. It is the next generation who will...

Joan Price RIP

To St Peter's Ealing for the funeral of Joan Price alto in the chorus for many years. She was 85 and had chosen all the music herself. Stephen Rose played. We sang "He watching over Israel" and "Gaelic blessing". Hymns were "The king of love", "Angel voices ever singing" and "Love divine". We also went to the crematorium where we sang "Soul of my saviour". Stephen played "Cast thy burden". It was a lovely funeral and our singing was much appreciated. Stephen's wife Moira sang a simple song "In this very room". The organ is fine Bishop originally and then Walker and a splendid church with an excellent vicar Mark Powell. Good to see older members of the chorus there including Irene who I used to lunch with at the BBC. Jean Taylor too. Back to work and lots of emails! To Catenians. Liz went to hear Bishop John on reconciliation.
