Mahler 3

Another lie-in - interestingly my weight has not gone up. I little ache under left arm may be from the fall the other night. To art and good work on lilies and school badge. To Senate House library and 10 scores returned and my ticket no longer needed. Was £55 worth it? Probably not and in future I will rely on Westminster central music library. To preProm discussion about the season. It seemed more relaxed this year perhaps because Edward Blakeman is only standing in. Most of my twitter points were raised - coughing, applause between movements, poor light in the gallery, the stupid new seating system, even the threatened new air conditioning. 3 people asked about Haydn. My request for Dvorak Requiem and Stabat Mater was not put. There were some interesting points about the changes of singers and the poor turnout for the Cleveland and modern items on BBC4. The Mahler 3 was excellent - the Leipzig Gewandhaus forces and superb posthorn solo conducted by Alan Gilbert.

Conversations

Swam 21. Lovely day so ate breakfast in garden where we have some magnificent lilies. Played some Elgar on the piano. To art and did new charcoal drawing. Joined Senate House library as an alumni and got 9 scores - it would have been 10 but the stack service was too slow. To Brixton NGI centre for second conversations for the soul - 9 there 6 of them Buddhist. Seamus from Northern Ireland on Gerry Conlon funeral at the end! Home and dropped in on Dennis and Ann Marie.

Fiyaz Mughal

Swam 20 and chat to Dennis, Liz and Ann on Skype.  Eventually booked for 2 Proms story times. To Senate House library and joined up and found 3 useful books. Fantastic scores! Wish I had joined before! To British Library but too late to reregister so enjoyed the Britten scores and recordings display. To Edgware Road and enjoyed chocolate eclair and Earl Grey at patisserie as I was early, The City circle at Abrar centre started late as Fiyaz Mughal was late but it was an interesting talk on Islamophobia post Woolwich and I gave him Jon's regards. To Euston to meet Liz off train from Manchester.

Seminar

Got X68 to Russell Square and read The Tablet. To Senate House chancellor's hall for free all day seminar on Collaborative partnerships between universities and Muslim institutions: removing the roadblocks. Started with a really good exercise where we each had to meet 3 new people and find out ther skills and contacts. Good speakers and nice lunch - made lots of useful contacts especially Christian and Muslim ones. The day was quite interesting and I was thinking about Khadija - it seems going to Egypt to learn the purest Arabic is considered more highly than a Ph.D! Got bus home and disappointed not going to Acton but we are going to the Zoo on Friday. Completed mosaic for Seán while watching programme on the Louvre.
