Public speaking

Thursday very wet day. I waited for Brendan Fitzgerald for half an hour. I got to St Gregory's by 5.15 despite a holdup on the A21 because of an accident. It was an excellent evening. Brendan Ducey stood in for Mgr Dickens, Matt for Charles. Quite a few Catenians came. The winner was Connor from Chatham. I did not agree with the judges about the runnerup! Coming back several flooded roads. Friday was sunny! To London metropolitan university for a conference on making London live up to being an age friendly city like Manchester. I joined the transport discussion and we came up with a lot of items. To choir practice and no basses! Saturday early to Wallington to collect organ shoe and then buses to Lewisham Sisters of St Andrew Lent quiet day on John. Walked labyrinth. Saw Steve Murphy on bus. Football crowds so drove to Addiscombe for Mass where there was a baptism. Andy Bebington led hymns. Watched programme on Hilary Mantel.

Bach

Grouted 2 mosaics messy job. To Sisters of St Andrew Blackheath for beautiful and disturbing meditations on the passion and part 1 of Bach St Matthew dramatised and conducted by Simon Rattle. Superb. To Norwood council at Mike's - meal cancelled. Colin proposed that negotiations start with Beckenham about amalgamation!

Pesach

Image
A real privilege to be at the Pesach service at Streatham liberal synagogue Tuesday 11 a.m. I was early so had coffee in Streatham High Road Stefan and his wife came as well. To quiet time at St John's. Tom trying to find Frances Young's book for me.  To Sisters of St Andrew for meditations on Haydn's 7 last words beautifully played by the Saunders quartet. I was much taken by the displays about Holy Week and the simple cross in the chapel. To Acton arriving about 10.30.

Sisters of St Andrew Belmont Hill

Woke early and uploaded Paul's photos onto Facebook  -they are really good. Train to  New Cross Gate 8.58 and then buses to Belmont Hill. Sisters have a lovely property opposite St Margaret Lee and Sr Maria Christine is from France and recently came from Edenbridge. This was an Ignatian day and we spent an hour drawing a review of the course this past year in silence, ate lunch in silence and then watched a film "The man who planted trees" and I fell asleep - I think I have seen it before. Reflection time on that - lovely chapel. Did not go out because of light rain - saw a fox and magpies. Left at 4 with Steve and buses and train to Charing Cross and to Colour exhibition at National Gallery. While it was interesting not sure it was worth £6! To College Garden at the Abbey for the Passage garden party. Sat with Louise Sage and Paul - lovely buffet and plenty to drink - Pimms and wine. Freddie and John Catenians were there. Really enjoyed it and the rain held off. Salvat...
