Most moving of all the Cardinal at the cathedral. Fr Andrew singing and organ! Recorded 2 hymns. Death café on zoom was fascinating. Evensong from Ripon and Newcastle with recorded music. Lewisham

Had to do an emergency stop when a car came out from the left in Holmesdale Road in the pouring rain. Last night  had to reverse for a stupid woman who should have waited. She said I should get a retest!  Idiot! A good meeting with Jerry this morning about Christmas which is going to be simple this year and luckily I went into the church. Organ builders had fixed the cipher and reported rain in the organ chamber but had locked the console door. A locksmith was needed as nobody but the organ builder had that particular key! After kunch went on the train with Bruce, I went to Lewisham RC church to find a Mass in progress. so I went to St Stephen's and played there. It seems the organists were upstairs at the RCs and I dd not know. Rather annoying.Brian was late at vespers so mass started late. Deacon from France and RCIA candidates. Alain at the end.Watched the Royal Albert hall remembrance. Portsmouth did not have much to do which was a shame.

Mary Rose

Swim before breakfast and set off at 10 having paid our bill which was much lower than expected! Smooth crossing and straight to the historic dockyard. Rather a long walk from the car park and to the new Mary Rose building. Fascinating and well presented. Particular interest in the musical instruments and the surgeon and pilot. To Portsmouth cathedral and Steven a lay clerk came to open up the loft. A superb Nicholson organ. Drove home via tea at Guildford cathedral. Unpacked and then to Bromley meeting as Andrew Hannan became a joint member. 15 there and rave reviews for the weekend. Harry Mellor was there.

Isle of Wight

Set off on Wednesday early and got to Portsmouth early for the ferry so enjoyed a visit to the cathedral. David Price was teachng some organists to play hymns and there were some lovely paintings on display. The cathedral looks great! Good crossing to Fishbourne and met the Duceys. To Channel View Hotel where we had a good meeting with Gill. Brendan and Alice were impressed! We went down to the beach to play crazy golf and Ciarán won. The food was excellent throughout the week and the service outstanding. Nice sunny room and we slept well although Ciaran developed a cough for which we got some mixture. Swam morning and evening in the indoor pool. Thursday to Osborne House and walked to the Swiss cottage  and loved the children's things. To Albert Cottage hotel which is lovely. By contrast Ryde castle hotel awful. Isle of Wight steam railway excellent especially Train story. Friday to Carisbrooke castle and saw the donkeys and up the keep, also Charles I's room. Christmas Day

Woke briefly when Liz arrived home and up at 8. Lovely service on radio 4 from Portsmouth cathedral. Paul gave us a lovely guide to the Holy Land. Eugene and Abe sent nice gifts. Played for 10.30 service and Liz went to the cathedral. I had time to hear the rest of King's - loved it. We all gathered at Dennis and Anne Marie's. The Queen was impressive as always. Lots of nice presents and the boys having a field day! Lunch was enormous and I admitted defeat at 3 different versions of potatoes! Dropped off later and Lou and Tom went around 6.30. We walked home to see Midwife and Downton both of which we enjoyed. Went to bed happy having packed ready for India.

Tuesday sun

Swam 22 - must try and do a bit more! To the church to rehearse and found it open and a workman about. One day everything will get nicked! Went through the Cellini scores - we have ended up with 4 tickets instead of 2!. Reading Rowan Williams and enjoying evensong from Portsmouth - Walton. new Dove canticles, Howells, Coe Fen and Stanford. Jack Beeson has written at length about recording the organ! He recorded Ian on Sunday.
