Galapagos
Sat 17th rest went on hike. We went on panga ride with Grace and in fact saw as much as they did! I did 2 drawings of Pitt Point - lovely morning. We saw sealions, pelicans, crabs, sheerwater, boobies, frigate birds, tropic bird. Lunch and talk on geology by Ramillies. Panga ride to cathedral and arch at Cerro Brujo - Darwin was on this beach. Lots of sealions and baby oystercatcher - wet landing. a long walk which was pleasant but hard going in the sand. Sunset and dinner with the couple from Oxted (again!) Watched Attenborough part 1.
Sun 18th did not attempt 2kms over boulders to see albatross! The captain was very pleased to show us the bridge. Started reading Darwin's autobiography (to page 78) the library is good and I read parts of Voyage of the Beagle and other books by Browne. Down House takes on new meaning! Did a drawing of wildlife. Glass bottomed boat with Grace and saw sealions, angel fish, monkfish, starfish, swam at Gardner beach Isola Espanola and wet landing. Sea lions about -water was colder than expected. Had a jacuzzi. Final dinner.Saw photos and we had missed a lot.
Mon 19th up early to go ashore and bus ride to see giant tortoises at a ranch in wellies. Bought a tortoise. We did get Tshirts and a wooden sealion on board. We did not visit Charles Darwin centre so disappointed about that. A good flight to Guaquyil - should have got wheelchair as it was a long walk out to the plane but there was a chair on arrival. Back to Hotel Colon and saw the doctor again - one more injection and Liz has pills. She will see our doctor on Thursday.Had a swim and spa. Final dinner - food OKish service slow. Farewells and people were cordial! Some have even longer journeys than us.
Tuesday 20th Liz did not sleep well and I was up doing emails. The room is lovely - executive suite. Sorted cases and weighed them carefully. Checked out and went to swim and sauna and spa then remembered adaptors for Ipad which the hotel retrieved and brought to us! Waited in the foyer and got this blog up to date - the internet signal in Galapagos was poor and the laptop is working again.
