Left 8 a.m. Good driver with a nifty way round Tooting. At terminal 3 9.15. Full English breakfast. Left one hour late problem with communication system. Watched Peter Rabbit, Fake or Fortune, documentary on Senator John McCain who has died in Arizona, finished A brush with death by Ali Carter her first novel and a Suzy Mahl mystery. Let's hope for more. Listened to War Requiem conducted by Noseda with Ian Bostridge and Simon Keenlyside. It will be interesting to see how ENO stage it. Arrived long wait at passports then 20 minute walk to super shuttle. Went past Phoenix zoo and botanical garden.very hot and dry. Hotel Valley Ho very nice. Liz went exploring. I got to bed. 2 am London time 7 hours behind. Woke twice and watched Simon Rattle Ravel from Prom a delight.Prokofiev from Edinburgh Victoria Mulkova.
1.9 swam at 6, walk round arts district and found All cafe. Lovely waffle fruit boat. 3 ubers. Musical instrument museum fabulous. Had salad lunch. Mass at 4 Blessed Sacrament 1000 there. Good priest and cantor. Welcome dinner Sheri is director. 3 from UK, 2 Oz, 4 Ireland, rest US. Only met people on our table.
2.9 swam at 6, delay at breakfast so last on coach but at front. Left at 8. Sedona red rock valley. Salad lunch. Lovely scenery. Lightning, hail, rain got to airport no helicopter flights, one couple insisted on trying again and did fly. We saved 600 dollars! Grand Canyon awesome. Nice room in lodge,. Champagne and Tim the geologist fascinating. The dating is extraordinary. 1000 million years.  Good dinner and we introduced ourselves. A diverse bunch!
3.9 set off at 8 a.m. Stop at Indian tower lookout designed by architect in 20s climbed to the top for great views of the Grand Canyon. Cameron trading post. Big store. In coach Dvds of Navajo codebreakers and John Wayne Tie a yellow ribbon filmed in Monument Valley. Awesome did some sketches. Taco salad for lunch. Stop at Grand Canyon dam.Nice meal steak again. Lake Powell lake side balcony.John and Mary from Brisbane loved Antarctica.
4.9 up at 5 and saw a rabbit and sunrise. To wilderness adventures. Schoolbus through tunnel to base of dam. Inflatable raft on Colorado river sheet walls of rock towering above us. Scott on anthropology no racism in prehistory and his encounter with creationists. Wonderful trip with a stop to see rock drawings. Swam but water cold. Lunch on balcony and rest. Started reading Dead of night by Michael Stanley.  Cruise on lake to Antelope canyon.Dinner at lounge and had local beer. Burger and upside down peach cake.
