2024

New Year's Day concert from Vienna was as always a delight. Tribute to Bruckner born 1824 in the interval from Vienna. This is fun! To St John's for midday Mass and then to the Westow pub for lunch with Andrew, Danny, Michael and Tom. Interesting sermon from Fr Tom on the circumcision. Trout and chocolate brownie. We were sitting in front of Jim Jelley at Mass and I asked if they were coming to lunch. They said they were going to visit someone celebrating 100 years old today called Ada. We got a card and flowers and went to visit her. She looks frail but Sylvia has an excellent setup to get her in and out of bed. Nice cake. Met her son and granddaughters. Only connect, University challenge, Mastermind, Wild Scandinavia, Bake off.

Tuesday windy and wet so no swim. A lot of time getting my laptop linked to the printer. The Vortex play by Noel Coward - Hamlet influnce. Margaret Leighton excellent. Mr Barnes and the Post Office very disturbing. Wild Scandinavia. We both saw mouse in the lounge. Peppermint spray.

Saturday Sm from Scotland. To Precious Blood for Ian Shaw's interesting recital. I thought his own tribute to Richard Lloyd sounded better there than on St John's organ. Bach, Dubois, Durufle, Janacek (very odd). Met Bishop Philip and he talked about Dan Higgins setting up training for young organists in Hertfordshire.

To Mass and David thanked me again for offering to be on the readers rota. Kings not in the crib and the wrong collects. Sentences omitted and priest did not clean hands. Epiphany played Buxtehude and Gade on How brightly shines and we sang Brighest and best set by Malcolm Archer. This is a lovely setting - there was a horrid version on the service on radio 4 at 8. Sorry to hear of the passing of John Parkes and surprised that the funeral is at St Mary’s on the 22nd at 12. John was a stalwart at St John’s for many years. I do not think he has long to go because of the cancer. Elaine Matthews rang in the middle of it about John Parkes' funeral. Snow showers.
Tuesday swam 20. Liz served at Beckenham funeral Victoria was on duty and it turns out it was a Catenian Paul Carr. I enjoyed the LMP zoom about Parry and the centenary concert. Lazy day at the beach jigsaw. Organists association recordings on 3 zooms including Daniel playing Cockaigne and S-S 3 at the Fairfield. It is good to hear of how well Bromley musicians have done.
