Thursday Decided to use our Kew membership and loved seeing the tulips and cherry blossom also the amazing paintings of Marianne North and the Singh sisters. The latter finishes on the 12th I think and it’s a brilliant indictment of the British in India. To Waterloo as trains were disrupted. Abandned going to Tate modern and hosted the Lsiuk zoom from the bar at Festival Hall and had a pizza there. To Network theatre under Waterloo station to see Max in Cosi fan tutte. Everybody was Brilliant! Adrian Terence and Fr John were there and it was great fun! Home by 11.
Friday 10 April to Unacc and had lunch. Coming home was complicated by roadworks everywhere and took Liz to Age UK for Mad Hatter's tea party. Mick came and then Hyacinth and John who is doing the IT at the funeral. Still don't know why I was involved but Jim is not himself and she said she had her mother's clothes in the house. Mrs Warren's profession with Imelda Staunton NT. Very well done. Apprentice and it's 2 ladies in the final.
Saturday A delightful coffee concert at St John's Let's do it the music of Noel Coward and friends. Clare McCaldin, Paul Sheehan and Stephen Dickinson. To garden centres. My right ear hearing aid was full of wax which much diminished the experience! To St Aidan Coulsdon for Mass then Pizza Express and to the vigil at Coptic Orthodox Coulsdon. Fr Kyrillos was delighted to see us and the deacon gave us blessed bread and spiced roses. 11 minutes of singing before the light of Christ fills the church. The stamina of the male choir is amazing!
We both went to Beckenham Methodist. Played Easter hymn Mascagni, Bach variations on Christ lag and Hallelujah chorus which was much enjoyed (although I was not on top form after a late service last night and car radio outside at 5 am which is very unusual. Now at Emmetts Garden.Bluebells and blossom. Excellent lunch at Aperfield Inn beef, lamb, chocolate. Forgot about ACTA zoom! Antiwues roadshow, Olivier awards, Big cats.
Monday Liz to new art course at Peckham - she thought it started at 10 actually it was 11. Chat to Ann so missed swim. Hedda Gabler with Janet Suzman and Ian McKellen. To Phoenix centre Will Noble on Croydonopolis. Why did Croydon not become a city? SM from the park. SEND dealing with local politicians very good. Call my bluff, Face the music with Murray Perahia, Mastermind, University challenge (Imperial failed dismally).
Tuesday Liz went to funeral in Southgate of Rose who used to go to Lourdes. John Thing rang so no swim. He was 80 in January and is now desribed as frail and vulnerable! To practise. Mediatation and Danny gave us delicious pea soup. Warship, Sorry (Barbara Lott used to come to Earlsfield library) .Very funny.
Wednesday swam 13. Have not been for 2 weeks! Interfaith group went very well - no problem getting into the room Fr Hugh Rita Martha and Jo all contributed a lot. "Finished" Dilexi te. To Zedwell hotel to collect my painting. Tired. To Balham Catenians had not been for 3 months. Arrived to find aftermath of a funeral so we had AGM and meeting in the big main hall. Roast lamb. Found it hard to get into the conversation. I mentioned that I was surprised how little I know about Brian Towler at his funeral and perhaps we could try short talks by brothers? Seems some ladies don't want to come to dinners. Great problem locking the car when I got home so rang breakdown and they said as long as it is secure ring in the morning.
Sure enough the battery was flat so AA came very quickly. Seems the lights must be on automatic. Also found out about the key inside the cover! At the same time postman and Ocado arrived. Watched Sam Becket film but dropped off. To dentist just a clean. Rang Designer drapes and sent photos of the bay window - the track will need to be replaced. Cheltenham prayer was good. John Williams. LSiM webinar a bit boring.
Friday BBC singers recording at St Peter’s Eaton Square on the theme of love. The Schumann was the highlight but lots of lovely Palestrina, Sandstrom and premiere of a work by Kim Porter. Sofi Jeannin will be much missed. Liz went to Mass and dinner for Fr Denis and came home after midnight. I watched NT End (honest and moving) and Ballet Shoes which was a delight.
Saturday woke late. To St John East Dulwich for workshop for young players with David Pipe. Some excellent progress and all very encouraging. To Mass at anerley. Good old days and Portillo in Andalusia.
Played Guest and Moore on St Fulbert and Thalben-Ball and Willan on Vulpius at St James Riddlesdown. My favourite Easter hymn Jesus lives! At evensong Wesley and Walmisley.
Monday Ann. Liz went to craft course. Swim. Catholic Union webinar Place of beauty was very good. Mastermind and University challenge finals.
Tuesday supervision meeting at All saints. Carers meeting and Admiral nurse spoke well. Left at 4 and met Tarik. Played for Mass for creation at Farm St on the first anniversary of the death of Pope Francis. Very good choir and excellent presentations and paintings by Helen Elwes and Martin Jarvis. Two lovely Laudato Si’ songs. Park Lane very busy tube strike.
Wednesday Covid jab never seen it so busy! Practice seems I need a DBS! Harry is better. Race across the world. To SM for fish and chips at Breadlince cafe, Bread for the world and the launch of Richard's latest 100 reasons for living. Queued to get it signed. Neil MacGregor spoke. Several people had been at Farm St last night! Christine Allen from CAFOD was there. Met Nitin on the station - he lives at no. 4!
Thursday to nursery for my second basketfilling workshop - got a couple of things wrong. People there from Potters Bar. Fell asleep watching TV! Geoff postponed his session. Animators zoom was shorter. Skipped Root and Branch zoom and watched Race across the world.
Friday to St Paul's Thicket Road to play keyboard for the funeral of Hyacinth's Mum Eva. People arrived early. I played Come unto him and the curate said they were ready so handed over to Jonathan. Of course there was silence! He played Jesu joy. 4 hymns first one not well-known. Liz prompted me to play another verse and repeat last line! Came home to watch Father Brown. Reception at huge Shiloh church hall in Thornton Heath. NIce food. 3 to 5.45 and I reckon it went on late. Liz lost her navy jacket. To bed early. Delighted that new blue bin has finally arrived!
Saturday SM Cath at Camden canal, first part of Hurtado and SM sharing about John 14. To ST George's Beckenham International organ day 3 young players and Charlie one of them plays at Beck Methodist. CLearing up garden. To Mass Good Shepherd Sunday no mention of the vocation of the laity. Bill Bailey in Vietnam amusing and interesting.
Sunday Riddlesdown with Fr Grant - a good sermon. Played Willan and Stanford on St Columba and the last part of the Dubois Toccata. Went well despite waking early and a dream about Fr Peter! Spoke to Bruce in hospital Scan has found gallstones. Watched Marathon, Rest of Bill Bailey in Vietnam. Antiques roadshow.
Monday Liz to Guys. Ann, Swim. Earwax removed and dr ordered a spray for the inflamed ear lobe. Programme about Ibsen. Worked on Liz's presentation. Bruce still waiting for MRI. Rodelinda from Garsington. Great singing. Washing all done. Played some Schubert.
Tuesday facilitators meeting. Curtains measured for new track. Bruce due for scan.
