Prince Philip RIP
Blackfriars and SMITF. To Owens in West Wickham and ear wax cleared. Right ear was badly blocked and so hearing test must be redone. To garden centre and tomato plants had just come in. To Shirley for petrol. I was listening to Stravinsky and when I came back to the car from paying the National anthem was playing. Sad for the Queen 73 years of marriage and 99 years old. Paul Carr and David Saint playing at St Chad's Birmingham. First draft of letter to Fr Swavek. Full coverage about the Duke. I liked the Gordonstoun feature.
Saturday lovely walk St James park with Richard and mass from St John's with singing by Fr Andrew, Blackfriars. TV coverage continued and watched 41 gun salutes. Worked on drawing. Made OJA email list and sent out invite to May zoom. Jigsaw. Gave up on Brague zoom - so many there and Portuguese session overran. Nelson needs to stick to the charcoal and some people talk too much. Mr Bean on Blind date.
I was most impressed by the Archbishop of Canterbury's reflection on HRH Prince Philip on radio 4 at 8.10 a.m. The Prince did not like organs calling them "horrible things" but he did commission Britten to write the Jubilate in C because he thought the settings were dull. Today I played Purcell "When I am laid in earth" and "I know that my redeemer liveth" and we sang "O sons and daughters" and "This joyful Eastertide". I also played Tambling on O filii and Ridout on Vreuchten and Bach Christ lag 2 part invention. More work on OJ reunion - more deaths reported sadly. Blackfriars homily. Caterham folk and zoom on New green deal as part of a longer event. Imogen Morgan playing at Peterborough. Took 3 letters to houses in Canham Road and one man rang up and an email offering to share cost of clearing back lane rubbish! Pelleas from Lille beautiful singing and very simple staging. Being Muslim and Being Christian both very well done and many similarities.
Monday Blackfriars SMITF. Phil rang so did some SLIFG business. Clare's wedding is 19/9 a Sunday. It will be on zoom. Colette's zoom linked to the prayer vigil outside the cathedral and was a useful catchup. Dean of Southwark on the young Prince Philip as a refugee. Ashley Wagner playing at Birmingham cathedral. St Peter's church Tickencote Rutland. William Fox playing JSB at St Paul's. Gordon Stewart at Leeds town hall. Zoom Balham brothers and Maidstone circle which was very dull. Greta's year.
