Easter Day

Up at 5 and got to Caterham at 6.15. Clocks went forward an hour. Of course we started late. Jaimee lit the Easter candle and then trie dto push incense into it. Carol starting lighting our candle and of course they blew out! 3 in the choir and went well apart from the psalm at the gradual. I sang Exultet - waited 50 years to do that. J had read the said bit so I just stood and waited. Moving Exultet to after the readings makes for a lot of musical items on top of each other! When I got off the organ to go to the font my right ankle objected. Howells went well at the end. Breakfast. 6 in choir at 10 and Paul Miller played well. The only messup was the piano for the last song with the wretched percussion. Choir got 3 bars behind me. Peregrine said they could not hear the piano! Hallelujah chorus with trumpet. Picked up Liz and then to Acton. Delicious lunch and we played Trivial pursuit. I was tired so home by 5. Urbi et Orbi and Canterbury cathedral on TV.

Easter Monday Liz at messy church. To Bromley Parish church Eleni played an unusual programme incuding variations by William MacVicar on Tea for two! St Bartholomew's vicar doesn't like classical music! Walked in South Norwood country park. Muddy, birdsong. St John Passion conducted by Gareth Malone 3 moving programmes. Canterbury evensong Stanford. Caught up on Blackfriars Easter services. Dean Mark Oakley's Easter sermon.

Tuesday woke at 7 and dropped off. Missed swim. Zoom with Essex folk who are experiencing much the same as me! To Christian meditation and there was a livley discussion abut how you could claim to be a cultural Christian if you did not believe in the Resurrection. Beyond belief with Giles Fraser about interfaith dialogue. The American contribution was very unhelpful. Interfaith is NOT ecumenism. New World and Bruch violin concerto BBC Phil.

Wed no swim as it's holiday time. Watched Netflix Testament as Tablet reviewed it. Some very odd Operavision concerts. Institute for Islamic, Christian Jewish studies talk by former director.

Thursday woke early so later on sent an email about the funeral arrangements. To art and took garden waste up to Dennis's. Saw Martin. Cheltenham prayer on Laudato Si'. OLV Vespers - fantastic organ improvisations by Martin Baker. Mammals part 1 Fennec foxes. Maria rang about Facebook Caterham cmmunity life. I am not the admin and I have now removed my mobile phone number. Apprentice.

Friday Unacc and renewed membership. I was annoyed with the volunteer who was so rude about this. Triniti turned up otherwise I would not have continued. Met Lee at Piccolo. Martin Ball's memorial service at Beckenham Methodist was a musical feast. The minister is impressive and spoke well about music. The lark ascending was the highlight. Harry Bramma played. We also had tributes and organ music by Martin, Rheinberger, Bach and Whitlock. Tea and cake and met Mary so gave my name for the rota later in the year after knee op. To Martin's house for wine He has has a huge library of books and scores. His piano is going to Keble Oxford. Checked garden bin back at Dennis's.

Sat SM St John Waterloo and Hungerford bridge with Jolley. No sound on phone but watched it later. To St John's excellent recital by 22 year old pianist Pietro Iacopini. Schumann Carnaval and Ernesto Lecuona Afro-Cuban dances. He asked for a page turner but the scores looked daunting! Despite the match our parking spot was still free! Come dine with me, Moroccan Berber hotel. Reading The Tablet. Did Liz's renewal of blue badge. Mass seemed very dull - no joy. Signed up for Southwark Life in the spirit sessions in May. Thai delivered.

Sunday anthem went well O sons and daughters. Sarah was at the rehearsal then sat in the congregation so Burdette asked her to come and sing the anthem! I played Tambling and Slater Easter Alleluia. Sorted out Shrine Mass II - two sentences were missing from the altar copy. Appears Jaimee had not read my email about the funeral. By the end of the day no change. Watched a bit of On Chesil beach again. Antiques roadshow.

Monday to play for Barbara Hay's funeral at 9.30. Why were the hearse and funeral party outside the church at 8.45? All this stuf about the bells welcoming them? Rehearsal went well and 6 in choir. I played the Maori love song on the organ and Dad's piece on Ar hyd y nos at the end. The Shera Nunc dimittis was a good choice. Mice made by Barbara on the altar and choir wore the robes she made. Jaimee flunked the sermon. It was livestreamed to NZ, Nice eats. Aerobics and we both went to a good talk at the Pheonix on Hollyood in the 30s.  I felt tired. SM meditation and zoom with Irene. Ony connect. Imperial won University challenge for the 5th time.
