Possible changes

Wed Aug 13. To Wibberleys to discuss changes to funeral plans. Victoria on great form. Practised at Methodists and acquired more miniature scores from Martin Ball! He had wide taste ranging to Berg. Swim it was not too busy. Malcolm from Robogas can't have shower downstairs, redo bathroom with walk-in shower £8000! Liz started new jigsaw and watched Masterchef and Destination X. I listened to the Prom Bolero and Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s cello concerto plus Rite of Spring. Read Tablet.

Thursday finished Tablet no. 2. Art and did most of the puffins. Aerobics and Liz came down. Swimming pool too busy. Liz interviewed for research into dementia and I took part in planning for Oct 2 service on zoom. We both went to St Stephen Norbury Fr Daniel and imam from Amadiyya mosque spoke very well. Executive mayor less so. Very nice food. The theme was pathways to peace. Missed the Iona print labyrinth at Swk cathedral. Bit of  Anna Lapwood's all night Prom. Animal park X 2.

Friday 80th anniversary of VJ day. Assumption 9.30 mass at Anerley. Neil read very well and he likes my emails. To UNACC - there is a survey to fill in and I joined the What's app group. I wonder why there are eggs and fruit to buy - it can't all be donations. Are they overbuying? Hot again. Wrote letter to One call insurance - not pleased with their accusation and a charge for providing the information about NCD! Father Brown had seen it before. To Prom. An exciting Prom Benjamin Grosvenor playing Ravel. The Sofia Gubidanaila was very loud but effective! Shostakovich Babi Yar syphony 13 new to me. Most effective. Echoes fo Britten and Mahler. Annoying man in pink very distracting. He might know it well but moving about so much is annoying.

Saturday woke late SM Richard at the seaside. Listened to Salford songbook songs and wrote to Bishop John about the new Mass text Care of creation. Liz drove to Mass at Anerley, Maria and daughter there from Beckenham. Nice chat to Fr John and his homily was very good. Listened to Shostakovich 5 from Proms with the score. All played from memory. I always think the triumphant end is undermined by D minor. Would I lie to you and Stephen Poliakoff.

Sunday Aug 17 To Beckenham Methodist played Sheep may safely graze which was Liz’s Mum’s favourite Peeters on St George and Cwm Rhondda, Elgar Ave verum and O salutaris. Finlandia which was Liz’s Dad’s favourite was much appreciated. A good sermon and Wesley hymns. NGS visit to 52 and 51 The Chase which involves a trek from the bus at Clapham Common. The 249 was diverted via Tooting and then we went the wrong way at the Common. Clare Chalmers was not at home. Should have taken the car. Programme about Delius with Max Adrian and Christopher Gable Song of Summer. Antiques roadshow. Watched end of the Shostakovich 5 on TV from the Prom. Striggio Prom very good.

Monday Liz to dementia arts egg tempera printmaking. Chat to Ann. David from Carers centre rang and very helpful. SO missed aerobics and swim. Delius Mass of Life from Bergen and to the Prom both conducted by Mark Elder. Choirs did well as did the mezzo and Roderick Williams. Adrian and Terence were there. University challenge but dropped off.

Tuesday 19th August. Swim. Steve from AgeUK came stair rail, step outside back door, step for bath, another stick. One call insurance again. I did not request breakdown cover for EU and UK so I want a refund. Paid Britannia parking £60 charge. Liz sorted art fund and one dementia research project. Carers meeting was excellent. Superb Prom LSO and Pappano Strauss and Puccini Suor Angelica. LSO chorus ladies sang divinely as did the soloists and the orchestra!! Wow! Bought a Proms Tshirt and so pleased to see Marilyn.

Wednesday alarm serviced and batteries replaced. Longer time for us to turn it off. Liz to hair. Could not practise as electrics were off so sorted out more miniature scores. Still 6 boxes to go through. Met Liz for coffee and toasted cheese at Penge garden centre. Swim. Only connect, play about Shostakovich 5 from the Prom and excellent programme on Delius. To Catenians sea bass and Eton mess. Incident outside St Joseph's closed the road. Radio 3 announcer Morris Ravel! Would never have happened in the good old days!

Thursday art and finished the puffins. Aerobics and 10 lengths of the pool. Both went to Beckenham Methodist. Pedal stops disconnected but electrician is due back tomorrow. Finished going through Martin's music. Exc programme about Ravel. Dad died in 2006 - can't believe it's that long! I practised his music today for Sunday. His Entry of the bride for Ann is beautfully constructed and catches so well the feeling of expectation at a wedding. His March is a triumphant conclusion. I still think "Dad would like that! I better tell Dad about that!" Excellent recital by Richard Pearce at St John the evangelist Upper Norwood most entertaining. Great cakes! Met his girlfriend Susanne from Adelaide whose birthday it was. The Axel Ruoff variations on Happy birthday rather too long!

Friday to the funeral of Jenny Dowlen at Streatham Baptist. I never knew her but Chris is a Spiritual director and 5 of our supervision group were present. Jenny was formidable at admin and finance and making food. The church is thriving. The music group consisted of keyboard, violin, cello and soloist on mike so the strings could not be heard! 3 songs at the start none of which I knew. Bible readings and tributes with photos. A long sermon from the minister who arrived Feb this year from Cape Town and a tribute from the former minister. Great is thy faithfulness. Cakes before hand and sandwiches and cakes with tea. 468 and 249 worked well. To the hall and delayed by traffic so Rita took us to the hall cafe whcih is was good. Respighi arr Bach, Joshua Bell playing Hartmann concerto. Gorecki Symphony no.3 was boring and not sure about the soprano's top range. Saw Ferrolith collecting.

Saturday woke late caught up on SM. Jolley has moved to Wapping and is from West Hackney. Hurtado about following Jesus. Andras Shiff playing Art of Fugue at the Proms - did he change the order of the fugues? I found it hard to follow the score. Wrote to One Call again. Put scores away. There were 4 proms and heard bits of each incl Berio and Mozart 39. Mahler choral work. Finished the Ravel programme and the Japanese ceramic restorer. To Mass and Fr John's last weekend before going to Bigiin Hill and Westerham. Tribute to Joyce Grenfell.

Sunday played Dad's marches, Pilgrims' chorus from Tannhauser and Adagietto Mahler at Beck Methodist. The sermon was far too long and the preacher sang accompanied by guitar. SoP St George's cathedral Carlo Acutis exhibition. Alterations a remarkable NT at home play. Animal park X 2.
