An enjoyable Prom
Saturday 30/7 SM from Cuddesdon. S and B. Decided not to go to Thornton Heath hub - there were 30 on duty it seems! Quiet day. To RAH. Annoyingly Google maps took us to Albert bridge which we knew was closed so over Chelsea bridge. Halle and Mark Elder. Sorcerer's apprentice (Mickey Mouse!) Fountains of Rome uses the organ. Il Tabarro with subtitles! 4 of the cast were changed but all sang really well. Very effective ending!
Sunday radio 3 natural sounds from Antigua. I played Rhosymedre and Imperial March so much more confidently having played them on several big organs in Suffolk. Chilcott Be thou my vision went well and we rehearsed the Throne setting for September. Coffee and home with "I'm sorry I haven't a clue." Liz went to St Chad's which sounds dire and took get school shoes for Henry. Henry was delighted to be given by yellow Catenian tie so he can practise his school tie. To 58 Cranston Road a pleasant small garden, Santiago cake and tea. Then to St Bartholomew Norbury for 5 p.m. Mass. The church is dominated by a huge Divine Mercy picture (which I have never liked) and a rather crude crucifix. Fr Augustine speaks well but when he is at the chair he is facing sideways away from us so hard to hear him. Deacon Ged did well but some very odd things. Reader sanitising hands before reading and prayers! Deacon standing at side to ring bell and not at the altar! He also gives communion from a great height! I do not think I will go there again! England won the football. The Prom Ravel piano concerto, Xenakis and Rite of Spring.
Monday woke early. Swam,. B, SM and S.Liz to gym and I went to UNACC. Triniti was late - only 4 there but a good session. Liz picked me up and we got lightbulbs for bathroom and tomato plants at Homebase. Delivered posters to Polish church, St Chad's and Holy Innocents. Prom from Truro - Franck Violin sonata, Ysaye, Boulanger and Brian. Ukrainian orchestra Prom Chopin and Brahms 4. Cleaning and played piano. Commonwealth Games. Louise brought Ciaran and he settled in fine.
Tuesday woke too early and swim at 7.20. Took Ciaran to Crystal Palace and picked up Julie in Caterham. GROW meeting in dining room (no coffee!) last one with Jerry! He retires in Jan. Stopped at King's Wood Sanderstead on way back - extensive ancient woodland. Sea symphony on TV. Quiet time in hall as recording in church. After 30 minutes silent meditation Danny's 30 minute spoke meditation was far too long! Picked up Cairan and we ate in the garden. Zoom with Jeremy Corbyn and Chris Packham against oil. 921 there. Sheikh Ramzy in my breakout group. Created Spidir Facebook page.
Wed woke early. 48th wedding anniversary. Swim SM S and B. Took Ciaran to Crystal Palace. There are 5 in his group. Liz to physio at surgery. Meditatio. Afternoon tea at Jams on the Hill Beckenham was very good then picked up Ciaran. Fitted waterbut connection but cutting some cms off downpipe. We have had no rain so we will see if it works! Prom Mendelssohn and Mahler 4. Also Xenakis from last night's Prom. Commonwealth Games. Skipped FTIC and LSi.
Thursday swam SM, S and B. Took Ciaran for last session. Art and good progress. Liz to doctor as worried about leg. Medicine coming. She also went to Sainsbury's. Ocado order was wrong. Seems I went in a bus lane in Colchester which must have been poorly signposted! £35. Henry came and spent most of the time with Liz on new website Owen uses. Picked up Ciaran and to the Hall where Louise met us. Moved to J stalls again. BBC Phil with John Storgaards. Theramin conceto by Aho. Saariaho Vistas - one chord but many different textures. Shostakovich 15 fascinating. The knock of death. Glad I spent £5 on a programme. Straight to bed and out like a light!
Friday usual routine swim 20, B, SM and S. List of Southwark parish emails. A lovely day. Swim and exercises at UNACC. We visited Bethlem museum of the mind (the Tablet reviewed it). Much taken by Marion Patrick's Depression 1. Bojo's mother clearly had lots of problems. To garden centre and coffee then to Claire's and met Athena, Grainne, Alexis and Sophia. Borrowed garden fork but in fact trowel and secateurs on the root ball did the job better. Replaced old flax with Euonymus Green Spire in front garden. I cooked creamy rigatoni (thanks Hello Fresh) and we enjoyed a Chilean Pinot Noir Al fresco. Now we have the Prom. Martinu and the Lebeque sisters followed by Rach Symphonic dances. The Julian Anderson symphony was good too. Enjoyed beach volleyball and diving from Birmingham.
