Catching up

Aga Khan centre was an excellent visit. Disappointing that some did not come. The director greeted us on the screen and our guide was most interesting. There are 5 gardens and a huge library. I went to Catenians.17/9.

18/9 art and ears cleaned out Dentist need one filling. We ate at Le Pain quotidien at St Pancras and then to King's Place for the Manchester camerata concert. Sound so much better. Tariq was there. I wrote to the Prms about it.

19/9 After Unacc lunch to Croydon Minster. Stephen Disley's recital was disappointing.

20/9 to St John East Dulwich. John Webber replaced Peter Wright - a bitty programme. To St Peter Leigham Court Road the choir director gave me a tour. The recital was moved to 5 so I heard the Bach and then to Anerley. Fr Jospeh speaks well but sings the hymns far too slowly.

21/9 To Riddlesdown The lady who let me in at 10.25 (I was there at 10)told me she could not get into the vestry. I practised and the priest arrived. He did not speak to me at all. We eventually started about 11.25. I told him I could not hear what he was saying (no microphone). Morning prayer BCP with 4 hymns. What I cannot accept is the lady who stopped me playing my final voluntary. Short and white hair. The purpose of this was to thank the priest. I played the last few bars and left. In 55 years of playing this has never happened before and I suggest that the congregation should be told not to do this again. The voluntary is part of the worship. I am not a jukebox. There was no reason why the announcement could not have been made after I had finished.

I do not wish to play at the service in October unless I receive an apology and some guarantee that this will not happen again. I got an apology from the vicar and organist. Evensong made up for my horrid morning! Dan’s father James Gilchrist sang tenor. Sumsion in A first movement of Brahms Requiem. It was lovely. What a treat to sing tenor with him.
22/9 To the first of 3 dementia friendly concerts organised by Holland Park opera this time at St Peter Notting Hill. A delightful soprano baritone duet ably accompanied. Chat to Ann.
23/9 Liz to Guys To Addiscombe for funeral of Arthur Hughes. Ann and Paul and Louise there. To St Mary Bromley for recital of Bedard's music. Some of Martin's organ music was taken.
24/9 set off for Stratford. Chastleton House left as it was in Tudor period by NT. LOved it. The cottage is very nice and just over the bridge from the RSC theatre.
25/9 Charlecote Park is lovely. To the play after an excellent dinner at Rotunda. Measure for Measure stunning acting . 3 characters left out - they are not funny. It was good Liz had seen You tubes about the play.
26/9 To Upton House beautiful paintings Lord Bearsted acquired in 1920s and build a special gallery for them. To Mass at St Gregory the Great Fr Oliver Holt OSB very friendly. We knew his Mum at SSG.
Watching Strictly big band from kitchem. Glass in electric oven has shattered. Lots of tiny bits everywhere.
27/9 Drove down M40 in rain. Chiltern open air museum harvest weekend nice displays Morris dancing. Long slow drive through London home by 4.30.
29/9 Liz to art. Zoom about dementia and nature study. Mass at SJ St Michael and all angels. Holy is the true light.
30/9 my 79th birthday. To St John the Baptist Purley for the funeral of Norma Carroll. The Carroll singers sang beautifully. Louise took us out for a birthday lunch at PizzaExpress Purley. Dennis and Henry came to visit. A very pleasant birthday. Liz made my present at her crafts class. Henry came. Gave him some stamps.
1/10 The panorama programme about the Met police at Charing Cross is deeply shocking. Also programme on care homes. Took music back to Beck Meth - told off for going through kitchen. Practice. LSi conference Castelgandolfo. Pope Leo spoke really well. So did Schwarzenegger.
2/10 More from the conference. Finished giraffe painting. Leisure centre password changed.
This message from gurdwaras says it all. We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic attack outside the Manchester synagogue, carried out on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Violence against places of worship is abhorrent and has no place in our society. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the Jewish community at this painful time.
We stand with all faith communities in solidarity and call for strengthened security at synagogues, mosques, churches, gurdwaras, and all places of worship so everyone can gather in peace.
A beautiful Mass and reflections at Farm Street on the 800th anniversary of St Francis canticle of the creatures. Ruth Jarman and I played Andante Bach violin concerto in A minor and Meditation from Thais. I played Vierne, Moore and Bach on the organ. Lots of people came. It was very memorable.
3/10 Liz to Hammersmith again cab late coming. More from conference the last day.
