Wyoming
A long day on the coach. Robbie behind us again so have asked to be moved.what was funny 2 days ago no longer is! Photo at Utah capitol. Cycle race. Logan. Bear lake and lunch at Garden city.Ice cream at Jackson, bar saddles labyrinth outside St John's church. Mass at wrong times. Jackson lake lodge very nice cabin.Bison burger and beer with Ash and Judy from Florida.
9.9 river trip on the Snake river large inflatable. Saw eagles, osprey, swallows, great views of Great Teton. Quite hard to get off. To visitors centre, lunch picnic at Dormans, church of the Transfiguration. Peter's falls, pronghorn. Yellowstone Old Faithful Snow Lodge. 4 course dinner. Chowder, saussges, pheasant Liz's too pink. Sundae. Early night knee tired.10.9 a wonderful Day in Yellowstone park. Left at 8.45 Grand prismatic spring amazing colours from the microbes. Gibbon falls. Artists paintpots are continually changing.
Saw bison. View of caldera volcano basin. Lower falls and Artists point Yellowstone canyon very impressive. Found the walking pole was a help. Huge Yellowstone lake and lovely old hotel Lake hotel. Lake Isa in continental divide. Shopping at store, beer at Old Faithful lodge balcony, waited to see Old Faithful impressed and excellent visitors centre. Ate in room. no TV or internet which is good.
11.9 Yellowstone lake, Shesone river, Cody Buffalo Bill museum, very fine gallery of Western art and Bearstedt exhibition and lunch there. Big Horn canyon and mountains, delicious pie, view over Wyoming. Saw elk. Good film on wolves. Arrived at Ucross lodge near Clearmont. Had a swim water not too cold. Excellent buffet and bread pudding. Local beer and Wyoming whiskey. Campfire and 2 girls sang. Talked a lot we joined in with a couple. Nice homely room.
12.9 another glorious day. After breakfast Liz went riding and I sketched horses. Left at 10 and got picnic at Gillette. Had this at Devil's Tower then did a 1.3 mile walk round the base. Saw prairie dogs. Watched excellent film on the battle of Little Bighorn. Spearfish river canyon staying at the lodge 600 dollars a night. Hot tub on balcony. Dinner at Latchstring restaurant with 4 from Alabama. On the coach the La Scala claim was not believed!
13.9 to home of the bison near Deadwood. The manager made a great fuss about bags but the 2 Lakota guides were excellent. Bus tour of Deadwood. Adams museum full of stuff and we had excellent salad at Line St station where there is also gambling. got cash for tips. South Dakota Black hills. Custer park Creekwood lodge. Excellent buffalo safari. Pronghorn, mule deer, turtles, huge herd of bison very close to jeep. Steak cookout with 3 excellent singers. Pretended to be Elvis. Hokey cokey and chicken song. Home in dark.
14.9 another great day the hugely ambitious Crazy Horse memorial. Very interesting film and sculpture workshop and home. Mount Rushmore is a wonderful American achievement. Saw films and exhibitions. Had buffalo hot dog and ice cream. Sketches and Lincoln proved difficult. Farewell dinner and we all made speeches. I gave thanks to God for a great trip, driver, Sheri and a lovely group of people. A wonderful world of scenery and nature.We are one world. I remarked on so many strangers thanking us for coming!
15.9 left at 8 and an 8 hour drive to Denver airport arriving at 3.45. Lunch at Torrington The Bread Doctor excellent croissant. Parade of old cars.flew at 7.40 8 hours slept a bit. Read McCall Smith and listened to Mozart, relaxed Prom and Haydn. Wait for Courier cars.
