Horrible weather. We sang Fairest Lord Jesus arranged Martin How. I played Sidney Campbell Impromptu on a French church melody Grafton and the Dorian fugue. Met Vi Nightingale's daughter and son-in-law. She was 92 and still singing! Had to change socks and trousers on return home. Nice lunch ham hock and cabbage. At evensong we sang Psalm 148 with its line about wind and rain, Walmisley in D| minor and Bullock Give us the wings of faith. There was a meeting with Daniel, Andrew and Adrian about Trevor's funeral. Adrian said that as members of the choir we could not be asked not to sing the Faure but could we keep a low profile. Fr Daniel is to speak with Kathy. Spoke to Louise about it, My mobile working properly at last. 

We sang Malcolm Archer's delightful setting of Brightest and Best and I played Walther on Jesu meine freude and Von himmel hoch. It was good to be singing "Be still my soul" which always reminds me of Liz's Dad. Sleet and light snow!! At evensong we sang Brewer in D and Bullock Give us the wings of faith. To mosaic and then to USPG regional day in Great Suffolk Street which I enjoyed especially Helen on India.

Liz to cathedral and I went directly to Beckenham to practise the Mozart Requiem extracts for Thursday and the Faure In paradisum. Service went well despite 4 big hymns for Peter and Paul! To Crystal Palace station where behind the cafe there is a large room and we heard 2 sopranos one American and the other sang Ivor Novello accompanied on the harp by Keziah Thomas. There was a good mediaeval ensemble with recorder, singer, percussion and small harp. Christian played well including a Bach trio sonata which he likened to Pride and Prejudice and he used the copy from school 60 years before! Edward Marsh and Lefebre-Wely and 2 blues type preludes. I turned and there were 21 there. To evensong Stanford in B flat and Give us the wings of Bullock. I stayed on for the Spectrum concert of wind and brass arrangements of Sibelius, Shostakovich, Ravel and Debussy and Holst - very well played. We sang Farrant "Turn thy face from my sins" and Statham in D. By request I played "land of hope and glory". The children had a delightful practice which was a relief after last Sunday. I practised and then home. Meanwhile Liz had gone to East Croydon and I did not get the text messages! Had quick lunch and back to church for 3.15 on a glorious day. The rehearsal and evensong both went really well. 34 in choir and 25 in congregation. Walmisley in D minor, Bullock Give us the wings of faith, Sanders Responses, Psalm 91 and 3 angel hymns. Good sermon by Richard Slade reader at Purley. Scrumptious Mothers Union tea with sandwiches and chocolate cake. It was a joy to conduct and Fred Irvine played well including Alla Marcia of John Ireland. Watched Antiques roadshow and Kevin McCloud in Rome. Took down dining room shelves. Roll on the next joint event! Pleased that Molly came and sang.
