Keats and Wagner

Heavy rain. Swam, mass by the time I came back roofers had fixed chimney and roof and cleared gutters. Art and started Lourdes painting. Lunch then to Keats House Hampstead Heath. An excellent tour. I have been to the Rome House and his grave. Sitting on bus at front buggy got on kid holding wet umbrella open which mother took off him. Guess who got wet? In depth discussion on Wagner with Stephen Fry and John Deathridge. It overran and had to rescue my bag from stage door. Super Philharmonia Prom. Webern went seemlessly into Mahler 10. Act 1 of Walkure great singing and playing. I dropped off and had to find place in miniature score!

Anniversary

Back to the swimming pool!  Excellent talk and performance of Israel in Egypt complete original version. Part 1 not as exciting as later parts originally funeral music for Queen Caroline.  Boys looking tanned and relaxed from French trip. The quiet day on the Pharisee and the tax collector went well and played 2 Kyrie's sung by the cathedral choir Vaughan Williams and Palestrina. 20 came. First prom Philharmonia Stravinsky, gorgeous Ravel and Adams.  A superb late night Prom with the Monteverdi choir Schutz and Bach cantatas. The skill of the composer and the instrumentalists amazing. Home at 12.30 a.m.  the annivrsary day turned out different. Liz went up to Glyn Close as Ann-Marie's back window in her car had to be replaced. So I went to Mass alone and missed art as picked her up.  After the splendid champagne tea at Library lounge Marriott County Hall a great conversation with the members of Bremen chamber orchestra who are doing amazing work in a school. Mahler

Swam 21. 2 splendid Proms HKGruber and Hagan Hardenberger on trumpet and Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting Schoenberg, Dutilleux and Mahler 1. How I like a conductor who follows the composer's markings!  Reuben Thomas  you were singing? In between I picked up scores at Central music library, lunched at Cóte and visited the RGS environmental photographic exhibition and walked to the Serpentine. A wonderful talk by Eva Scholl step-sister of Anne Frank on surviving Auschwitz and what needs to be done now to combat racism and discrimination. She defended Ken Livingstone and spoke about the Palestinians. Liz slipped and graxed her elbow outside West Norwood station and I seem to have dropped my new right hand hearing aid on the bus last night. It was annoying me again and I took it out and put it in my back pocket. Parked at Kent House because of the strike but in fact our lines were unaffected as far as we could see!
