Met Henry and family at the new playground at the lake - you can play music! I went off the Mass St Maximilain Kolbe. Greenwich picture House for 2007 Met Eugene Onegin conducted by Gergiev. Renee Fleming, Dmitri Hvorostovsky (what a loss he was) fab acting and singing, loved the bare sets. And the tenor Ramon Vargas was moving and impressive. Had a good meal at Imperial College Union and the discussion on ecstasy was fascinating. Barenboim added Eugene Onegin polonaise and violin concerto changed to Tchaikovsky. I brought the Brahms score as that was in the prospectus. Very well played. East West divan orchestra.Hamilton too long and never heard a single word! Scriabin was impressively loud well done the brass.  12.30 Mass at Chiswick for the Assumption. Carluccios in Chiswick is shut so we had an excellent meal at Kitchen and Pantry. Sean enjoyed his icecream. Discovered we had managed to leave the keys inside the house so got a locksmith who eventually changed the loc...

Colin at Mass so had a chat. Liz could not get in to the prom. The system is unfair that online prommers get in up to 7.30. We have paid for the concerts. Annoyed by interviewer at pre Prom talk interrupting speakers on Lenin. Great playing from Oslo Philharmonic under Petrenko. But why was this a sellout! Rachmaninov, Firebird and Shostakovich 12. For the second time big black car parked by woman in our place and bollards moved. Jeanette was rude to Liz abut this.  To St Cecilia's North Cheam for funeral of Laurence Jones who was 90. Lunch at Victoria and Albert sweet potato with avocado. Sat at a table with a lady between two women who talked non stop over a cup of coffee with people looking for seats. Cannot get worked up about plywood but the Constables are great and were recently on BBC Fake or fortune.  2 splendid proms -Renee Fleming gave us two encores and was superb! Nielsen 2 a great work. Chineke! and Sheku excellent. Home at 12.30. Thursday to Mass. 

Monday to mosaic and tai chi - Hendrika was good. Home to eat. In the evening to confirmation. Fr Paolo was great on the good news but left us doing nothing! It would have been good to go into groups and discuss the resurrection! Mark was there  -great to see him again. Tuesday completed booklet for prayers on Friday and draft notice for conversations for the soul. The minutes from Saturday were very well received. To Clapham Picture house for 12.30 to 4.30 for Rusalka from the Met. Renée Fleming was gorgeous with a very strong cast and so much better than that awful Covent Garden production. Lovely playing too. I went to Acton and while Liz and Louise went to IKEA Tom cooked sausage roll and watched Bright young teachers. Wednesday to music as usual and joined up at Watermans. The river was very high and flooding is now a major problem everywhere. The boys behaved well and Liz went to see the private specialist. I was delighted that Geoff was so complimentary about the library after the senior training session on Thursday. I finished "Broken places" by Wendy Perriam and watched the last night of the Proms 1910 conducted by Paul Daniel with the lovely "Dark pastoral" played by Stephen Isserlis and based on Vaughan Williams. Friday's practice and no bass. I drove to Acton which took about 1 hour and 15 minutes and arrived at 10 p.m. Saturday we babysat Ciarán who was as good as gold. Louise and Tom were at a wedding in Ireland but had left full instructions and rang to check. We went to the park to enjoy the swings and a coffee and after lunch had a sunny walk. The Last Night of the Proms was great with Renée Fleming superb. It has been a wonderful season and I am only sorry that I only got to one Prom this year but I have listened to many on radio, Iplayer and BBC4. A highlight of the concert was Jonathan Dove's new piece and Dvorak's Hymn to the moon. We enjoyed...

Another lovely sunny day. I waited for Ann to come on Skype but she must have been out. Liz went up to Grandma's to see the carpet man and visited the hospital twice. I got the train to Coulsdon to plan music for October and November with Vickie. Norman Harper now at St George's cathedral, Southwark gave an excellent recital at St Michael's which overran! It included a Handel concerto, Buxtehude and Bach. Then a delightful voluntary by William Russell and "Lucis creator" by Thomas Hyde and commissioned by Norman. Debussy Arabesque No. 2 worked really well on the organ and the Final from Vierne's Symphony No. 6 to a rousing conclusion. Had a chat to Martin Ball and saw Adrian and Terence. In fact it was a day for meeting people - Mary, Bob Atkinson and Trevor. I dropped in the invite to the Catenian clergy supper at St Chad's and the secretary said her son used to be in the children's choir! Omelette for lunch and I did the ironing while watching the HD...
