Swam and Mass. Grenfell Tower memorial service from St Paul's is going to be very moving. Be still my soul and Fr Gerard Skinner and representative from the mosque carrying the Grenfell banner. St Paul's service beautiful and very moving especially the children. Giles Fraser on this old heart of mine radio 4. To Design museum to see Beazley designs of the year (I voted for a new typeface for all languages),Ferrari and Jon Snow ties. Tea and mince pie at Marks.  Prof Frank Clooney SJ brilliant on 4 Jesuits in India at Heythrop. Good to see old friends.Michael Redman, Sylvia MacDonald, Fr Malachy.  

Swam 20. Met Jon Dal Din and Sr Eileen waiting for circle line. Nice to be back at college and lots of people I know there not least Xavier, Fr John O'Toole. Also an opportunity to meet people from Peterborough, West Midlands and Dublin! Rita, Kim, Fr David, Sr Elizabeth, Alfred Agius, Damian. Michael Barnes is on sabbatical. Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald excellent and I got in a question about Paul Knitter to Gavin d'Costa! Cardinal Kasper unwell so not coming in person tomorrow which is a pity. Good lunch. Martin Ganeri was as always dull. Archbishop Kevin much better. To mass at cathedral and Brian gave an excellent sermon on the lost sheep. Buxtehude at the end. To St George Hanover square for concert by recorder, viola da gamba and harpsichord (Yao) which was excellent and nice eats. Helen introduced me to an adult piano student who paints and lives in Bromley.   New work by Freddie Meyers. 

To Heythrop for 1 p.m. Mass. Despite my request we did not sing "O Thou who at thy Eucharist didst pray" Had a soloist for Panis angelicus who did well apart from an early entry on the last line! Missa de angelis. Fr Jim Sweeney preached on Francis de Sales who was in Calvin's Geneva and the theologians upset his faith when he studied in Paris! A lecturer offered to get the ordination videos to Nadeem for me which was kind and I had a pannini and chatted to Michael Smith. Took the feedback form to Michael Barnes who appreciated my comments as did Damian. Martin Ganeri is no teacher! Module 1 is to be revamped which is good. To Old Marylebone Road Our Lady of the Rosary with South London brothers and met Fr Michael who is new there. A huge church so quartet and soloist will go at the front. We went up to the organ gallery but could not get in! At least Liz and I are now invited to the reception - I am not paying £75 for the dinner at the Landmark hotel! To the Royal Acade...

At Seán's baptism at Acton. Swam 30. To court and left at 1.10 p.m. To Heythrop coffee downstairs and chatting to Xavier. Worked in library and had dinner (not very good chicken potatoes and carrots - I think it was the gravy). Lecture from Martin Ganeri. Asked Michael about dissertation - he said he couldn't see me until next term. I voted in the by election this morning and Liz went this evening - very low turnout. Watched Young Apprentice and David finally went.

After yesterday's 32, only 24 today but Liz came to the pool for the first time for ages! Did some work and both to Heythrop. Liz was cleared of plagiarising herself at the hearing and was able to explain the problems she has had. Both sang in the schola for Mass celebrated by Fr Michael Holman the principal. He makes everyone feel welcome! Had lunch together. Helped at Freshers' fair although the real busy time was the morning. Chatted to Jewish society and Islamic society folk but avoided the lesbians! Worked in library and got more books on Buddhism then tea with chaplains where I met Likwane from Cameroon and Muhammad from Lokhani. Michael at dinner and then finally found Goodall room. Martin Ganeri as expected is dull and boring just reading the notes but Michael Barnes cheered us with pictures and quick guide to Buddhism! Home to watch part of Gareth Malone enthusing Bristol Royal Mail choir!

Looked up more details of places we are visiting, changed light bulb in kitchen twice (!) found adaptors, picked up Liz's prescription. To Eugenie room for day conference on comparative theology. Prof Francis Clooney from Harvard excellent, Prof Keith Ward less so, Nice buffet lunch, Fr Martin Ganeri dull and Michael Barnes brilliant on Augustine and Buddhist mandalas, Lots of my class there and Damian referred to 3 of us as his best students - flatterer! Archbishop Kevin there. Got books from library. Home and watched country house rescue and London bridges with Dan Cruickshank.
