Confirmation

Slept in and Liz got my new Sony phone. The Doro would not recharge. To the icon workshop at St Nekarios Battersea to paint the border on the icon. Bishop Nicholas confirmed 28 adults at Mass - a long service. Came out to see the window rose made of plastic bottles illuminated by cyclew power! Watched A Vicar's life and paradise gardens with Monty Don.

Stanmore

St Lawrence Whitchurch Little Stanmore played Handel and Andriessen Handel visited and Chandos anthems first sung here. Our guide was gallery prommer Stewart! I had been there before.  Excellent mushroom pie and Sir Titus beer outside at Grimsdyke former home of W.S.Gilbert who was a one for the ladies. The Nicholson organ in Pinner parish church rather disappointing. Tried to visit the Linleys but they were out so had tea in the park. Bishop Nicholas confirmed 19 at Mass. I need a thinner cassock! Liz was at St Vincent's schol fair and went back to Acton for post fete outing. 

Open day

Liz went to Barnet for catechists session. To Whitehorse Manor school in Thornton Heath. The head welcomed the first tour of the day which included a former pupil from the 40s! One of the architects took us round and explained how they got 7 more classrooms in limited space, The copper front is to instil pride in pupils and be distinctive. On to Priory school which is also very impressive and Nick took us round. They have lovely woodlands and an aerial walkway, Coffee and cake and then on to 33 Elmwood Road lovely house with lots of kids things - gorgeous master bedroom. Buses to Artslav which is just a Victorian gents under the pavement needing painting! To Ballet Rambert and put my name on 3.30 tour so went for tea and cake at National theatre. The chief executive showed us round -lovely studios and linked offices . The floors and the showers are great. The building opened November last year. Bishop Nicholas celebrated Mass. Bishop Nicholas

Liz not well but she did come to the cathedral and we were early. Waited in the tunnel and took stools to sit on! I was boat and communion torch. It all went reasonably smoothly. I met one of Jon dal Din's colleagues in the cathedral and she told me the new bishop was meeting interfaith folk on Friday. Yet again I have not been invited! The ceremony lasted 2 hours and we had Palestrina, Tallis and Byrd. Went in the hall for eats and wine and saw Fr Tom, Fr Michael O'Dea, Fr John Hemer, Christina Gangemi and others so had a nice chat. Met Bishop John Arnold's sister. Briefly met the new bishop resplendent in new outfit. Liz went home to sleep and I went to Tate Britain for the excellent Kenneth Clark exhibition including clips from Civilisation and ATV films. Earl Grey in the members room and enjoying McCall Smith. To Farm St hall for Faith matters question time.
