April 27 - 30

 Tuesday SMITF, district nurse came and lien is blocked so Liz going to Guys tomorrow. Spidir committee went well and pleased that John Philpott-Howard is taking over as chair. I did not volunteer to be treasurer! Henry and Dennis came and enjoyed the tent in the garden with teddy bears. Also some digging and planting beans. He took Bruce's teddy home on condition he brought it next week! Quiet time and sorted out back bedroom. Mark Jones playing Harris and Willan at King's Lynn. Hustings about saving South Norwood library - impressed by the Green and the Lib Dem. Labour guys say they will not follow the party line but don't believe them! Our Yorkshire farm.  Wed woke 6.30 and Liz had gone in a hurry! SMITF, Blackfriars, St John's Mass. York Minster evensong with installation of canons. John Thing rang. April 24th

 Saturday 24th Nazareth walk with Richard in Green park - gorgeous day lots of blossom. Colette's meeting for a short time. Nazareth community prayer and groups excellent. Zoom from Belmont - interesting comments on Caravaggio. The retreat itself is marvellous. Rizwan giving me more grief. He cannot just add items into the programme!! April 21

We shared a room with Bridget O'Dea and Deliveroo brought delicious fish and chips.  Thursday Blackfriars and SMITF Sam seemed subdued. Stephen Lawrence day and Earth day. Excellent Diocese of Worcester session on Church and Covid and Community Fund. Broadcasting section very helpful. Churches trust Emma Wells on Henry VIII. Songs of praise about York. Easter 3

Weird dream about a staff meal out and people turning up who I knew but could not remember their names. I played For as in Adam, Worthy is the Lamb and Amen chorus. I had a wave of emotion at the first tenor entry of Amen - will I ever sing that again? Also Michael Fleming on Noel nouvelet and Pachelbel. We sang Now the green blade and A brighter dawn is breaking. Zoom chat and Bridget West brought a rose. Blackfriars. Bach from Royal Academy and played by Richard Brasier. Excellent Sermon from Southwark and Piers Maxim's piece Strength and stay.  The evensong from Southwark cathedral for Prince Philip was splendid. Excellent sermon by Bishop Christopher. Brahms and Nun danket at the end.  Timothy West read a sonnet. Tea in the sunny garden and uprooted fuschias. Vespers from Belmont. Hearing

 Tuesday Blackfriars and SMITF, Delightful LMP zoom with double bass and Hilary Davon Whettan who studied with Boult. Lionel Friend and Owain were in his class, He said Giulini used to go to his island for 2 months to study each work. Long country walks were the best advice to conductors by Boult so that it became instinctive. To Guys for hearing test. Decided new ones would be sent. Prince Philip RIP

 Blackfriars and SMITF. To Owens in West Wickham and ear wax cleared. Right ear was badly blocked and so hearing test must be redone. To garden centre and tomato plants had just come in. To Shirley for petrol. I was listening to Stravinsky and when I came back to the car from paying the National anthem was playing. Sad for the Queen 73 years of marriage and 99 years old. I liked the Gordonstoun feature.  Saturday lovely walk St James park with Richard and mass from St John's with singing by Fr Andrew, Blackfriars. TV coverage continued and watched 41 gun salutes. Worked on drawing. Made OJA email list and sent out invite to May zoom. Jigsaw.  Gave up on Brague zoom - so many there and Portuguese session overran. Easter Monday.

 Lie-in, nice chat to Ann. Worked on jigsaw and enjoyed Father Brown, Countdown, Repair shop. William Saunders playing at St Edmundsbury. Christopher Too at Bridlington omitted to tell us what he was playing! Vespers from Belmont. Balham Catenians heard about the life of an Amazon driver. University challenge won by Warwick. Act 1 of Flying Dutchman from a boatyard in Lithuania!  Tuesday up late. Weird dream about a concert for India. Blackfriars and SMITF. Easter Day

 The Triduum at Caterham went well with a small choir and shortened services. Today we had the fire (In church) and Exultet. We sang Sing choirs of heaven and Sing God's Easter people sing and I played Hallelujah chorus at the end. Nice to see children in church! After I had played my preludes (Bach, Bonighton and Thalben-Ball) I realised I had left my glasses next to the piano because they fog up when I have my mask on. Canterbury cathedral on radio and TV, Urbi et orbi from St Peter's, Easter at King's. The boat race from Ely was close. Vespers from Belmont and Benediction. Saw a bit of Blackfriars Vigil. Come dine with me.
