The lady who conducted the gospel choir at the royal wedding was on my bus at Clapham common so we had a short chat! 

A delightful family day for Ciarán's first communion at Acton. He read beautifully and a most enjoyable lunch at the Chatsworth in the sunshine. We went to Wembley for the party for Michael's confirmation. It took over an hour to get home due to diversions around Wembley. The music was too loud and I said we were leaving so the cake got cut. Fr Julio turned up at 7 as we were leaving! 

Swam 20. To art and the 2 pictures are finished. Left early to get to Acton for Ciaran's Year 2 Nativity. he spoke so clearly and James was good too. They sang well. I helpeds et out the PTA tea with Louise.  Home in time to change and drive to Bernard's in Bromley for lift with Vincent to Sevenoaks/South London joint. Presented Vincent with the scroll which took him by surprise. Excellent turkey and strudel and we sang carols including 12 days with actions in groups! Liz enjoyed Olive's 100th. I posted the card she left behind! Home at 11.45.

Met Louise and Ciarán at Norwood Junction. We went to St John's panto Aladdin and Dennis joined us. It was hilarious and well done and we all enjoyed it. Bought a raffle ticket for £10. Saturday we went on the bus to Horniman for an excellent hands on event with old toys. Also went to the fairground and musical instruments outside but it was very windy. Bought some books for the kids and met the authors. Visited Dennis and Molly. Tree lights on and started putting decorations on. Met Louise at Victoria. Canon Christopher at Mass and Hornchurch school choir were good singing Durufle. Sunday p layed Peeters and Walther on Wachet auf, Lang on Winchester New and Philip Moore on Merton. Fr Leon appeared in the loft to see Bill beforehand and there were no announcements before service! I dashed off to get to Acton leisure centre for Ciarán's 6th birthday party. A lovely large room with bouncy castle and excellent animal presenter. Kids loved it. Went back to Shakespeare Rd for suppe...

School sports day was hot! Started at Fielders and ended there having ice cream. Ciaran won 2 out of 3 races. Rugby ground is huge! 

Both to pool but Liz did not have costume so she walked home. I did 20. S pecial occasion of unity following the Paris attacks. London Central Mosque (Regent’s Park), 146 Park Road, NW8 7RG ( St John’s Wood tube) Friday 16 January 11am – 12 pm with refreshments Dr Shuja Shafi , Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, will be speaking, along with religious leaders from different traditions.  Lots of press and photographers.  This is an opportunity to come together with Muslim friends and especially Jewish colleagues, to rise above the dynamics of division and to affirm our determination to work together for a peaceful Europe .  Similar events are taking place tomorrow in Birmingham and Manchester . There was a reasonable turnout considering the short notice and there were messages from the Anglican bishops but nothing from ours (perhaps they were not asked). Ciaran woke at 1 a.n. and Liz got up then slept to 7 a.m. He seems very happy! To Gambado soft play Beckenham  and Brice enjoyed the slides with him while I read The Times and drank cappuccino. Home for lunch and John the electrician came - had lounge door off and floorboards up  -some rewiring needed but at least we can use some of the downstairs sockets. Took Ciarán to the lake to feed the ducks, scooter, playground and ice cream. Played in the garden Struck again by how polite he is - every time I handed him bread for the ducks "Thank you Grandad!" Bruce babysat. We missed the cathedral volunteers Mass and reception but went to the Catenian past president's supper which was fun. Clair Ingram on great form - had goat's cheese, steak and fudge cake. Louise is fine.  Courtesy - a smile costs nothing - the lesson of the Gamesmakers is that we should ALL smile and make people welcome!
