The Globe

Tuesday overslept so only 10 lengths - back seems fine! I did tai chi on Monday so that helped I think. Left shoulder still twinging. Listened to Vaughan Williams piano concerto from proms on way home - an interesting piece with a lovely quiet ending. There was a football match and the road up so traffic and bus chaos. Loved Maestro - 6 trying to conduct - Peter Snow was hopeless! Jane Asher looks like a winner! Wednesday up early and did tax letter. Express bus 90p on oyster to Waterloo and reached British school of osteopathy early. Full interview again with 2 nice students as I had not been since March 2007. Brand new HQ but rooms still rather cool! Tutor says pain in side cleared up well in 2 weeks so not to worry and back pain clearing by Monday is also good - shows how healthy I am. I go back in a week. Rang Vickie and bless her she said leave our meeting to next Wednesday. So that meant I was able to attend diocesan meditation day (or part of it) Midday prayer, Eucharist and 2nd ...

Party

Friday woke late so no swim again! Work experience student came for interview - he uses our library and put us as first choice! The other young man is apparently not coming after all. Two very unruly teenage girls came in around 4 p.m. and we ended up calling the police. One told me my job was boring - what I should have said was that life is never boring with people like her coming in showing no respect for anyone! On the bus the other day large man sat next to me taking up as much room as possible and then switched his radio on. I said "What makes you think we want to listen to your radio? Please switch it off" which he did remarking that it was ClassicFM. So what I thought! Liz thought I was mad in view of all the knives about these days. I just wanted to read "The Tablet" in peace - I now have 4 to get through and there's a lot to enjoy in them not least items on future Archbishops of Westminster. To Mass at the cathedral and the full choir wer...

My back

The osteopath was very pleased that I had been doing my exercises and my right leg was stronger. He really worked hard on my hamstrings and back and says the next session could be the last for a while. The holiday had done me good and I swam 38 lengths today so that's nearly my best yet!

An extraordinary day Part 2

After the Spirituality session I went to see Mgr Mark Langham. He was very concerned about ym back which was giving me a lot of grief. I told him of the accident I had with the cross after Saturday evening Mass. I was carrying it up the side steps to the sanctuary at the Cathedral and tripped over the hem of my new cassock. I thought I had hurt my foot. But I may have jarred my back which has been dodgy in the past - I was born with slipped discs! I have since had my cassock altered and left a note for all servers advising them to go up the front stairs! Fr Mark and I discussed ecumenical and interfaith work and he is very supportive. I then went to Vespers but as my back was so bad I decided not to serve at Mass after all.
