Vienna Philharmonic

Swam 20. The Chinese man who always swims too slow in the medium lane asked where I had been. Cleaned my study - the dormer had been left open so bits of tree had come in and some rain. To quiet day and Michael Dorey on Fear of the Lord and hope. Only 9 there. I fell asleep during the quiet times. At mass Fr Michael Quaqoe back from Rome gave an excellent homily on Jesus's daily life. We all need to have quiet time. To Pre-Prom talk on Korngold in America. Lovely playing from Vienna Philharmonic Dvorak 9, Korngold violin concerto, Strauss Polka encore.

Dame Evelyn Glennie

Swam 21 because the bat woman was going up and down and there was a slow woman in the lane! Liz came too. To mosaic and got all the gold and white beads done! The Cadogan hall Prom was Dame Evelyn Glennie who is 50. Tried drawing her and the hair is a problem. Got Petroc quite well the second time! Amazing memory. Liz went to the Zoo and I headed for Tate Modern. The Agnes Martin did not impress but I enjoyed drawing a Barbara Hepworth. I had tea in the friends room and foudn out that my card was refused. It seems Liz used the wrong pin on Friday in between the Proms in the bar and thus it was blocked. It will take 5 days to get a new one! Did  a drawng of the Old Bailey.  I went to Somerset house to see the excelletn Ben Uri gallery centenary exhibition - an interesting film. The No 9 bus was diverted so ended up walking from South Kensington  -cannot understand why. The introduction to the concert by Rachel Leach was great with all the kids joining in. Korngold

Woke early so did more work on dissertation and some pruning. Swam 20. Spoke to Ann who is back at work. To Senate House library to consult 2 items and get scores, Home for lunch and then to Rachel Leach's preProm family event with kids playing instruments and conducting. The Prom was BBC Phil and was good. Orb and Sceptre is a great tune, Rubbra, Bruch and Korngold symphony. Not many there! Very chuffed that the organ recitals leaflets have come and my name is in there!

Norman Harper

Another lovely sunny day. I waited for Ann to come on Skype but she must have been out. Liz went up to Grandma's to see the carpet man and visited the hospital twice. I got the train to Coulsdon to plan music for October and November with Vickie. Norman Harper now at St George's cathedral, Southwark gave an excellent recital at St Michael's which overran! It included a Handel concerto, Buxtehude and Bach. Then a delightful voluntary by William Russell and "Lucis creator" by Thomas Hyde and commissioned by Norman. Debussy Arabesque No. 2 worked really well on the organ and the Final from Vierne's Symphony No. 6 to a rousing conclusion. Had a chat to Martin Ball and saw Adrian and Terence. In fact it was a day for meeting people - Mary, Bob Atkinson and Trevor. I dropped in the invite to the Catenian clergy supper at St Chad's and the secretary said her son used to be in the children's choir! Omelette for lunch and I did the ironing while watching the HD...
