Bombshell

Liz took books to Edgware Rd and car to Acton with bulk buys. I painted edge of board above boiler and prepared for tomorrow and interfaith talk and article. To Acton - Ciarán went to a party and Seán woke up and played happily if rather quietly. We missed Vespers and Brian sang beautifully at Mass and preached very well indeed. Saw Andrew Connick afterwards (previous attempt fell through). No wonder he wanted to see us together. He has recruited 7 young catechists and no longer requires our help. The timing is terrible -  we should have been told this 8 weeks ago. I pointed out that we had spent our money and time training and enjoyed what we were doing. It's a disgrace to treat Liz like this after 10 years of doing it! It;s true I have only been fully involved for one year but what about the years before? I am preparing a letter to Canon Christopher. Andrew is only with us for one year!

War Requiem

Only swam 14 and did my hydrotherapy exercises as my left knee was hurting. Woke up with the pain and dreaming about tonight's concert and a small choir doing an item beforehand! Collected my pictures from AgeUK and to coffee and cake at Ada and Sylvia's. They were delighted by the Faith, hope and love mosaic and Sylvia asked a lot of questions about Heythrop. She stood for Ashburton ward and lost by 8 votes because of UKIP - she is Conservative. To Elmers End to try and get castors for bedside cabinets and dropped in at the Manse to see Josie. She recognised us immediately. Excellent talk on Wilfred Owen but it was full and I was in the gallery so could not hear too well.  War Requiem wonderful ending and long silence which moved me to tears and superb soloists Gritton and Spence. Not entirely happy with children's choir who should be boys only. Tenors where were you? Sanctus and Libera me could not hear you! Basses very good and great to have young singers. Simon Halsey ...

A lovely day

A glorious sunny day so I sat in Battersea Park at lunchtime and read "Oremus" and "Choir and organ". Just a slight chill in the shade to say that summer is ending and autumn is coming. My "Tablet" subscription has expired so I have missed the last 3 issues. However I won a bottle of wine on the crossword and Dennis has marked it that it can only be opened when both sons are present. I wonder when that will be? In fact I am feeling a bit "after the Lord Mayor's show"! When's the next holiday - October half-term? Christmas is looming already! Louise and Tom will be in Ireland for that this year. We will sing at Windsor again. There are quite a lot of Chorus concerts coming up some of which are not very exciting! The Foulds World Requiem promises to be memorable. There are trips to Belgrade and Istanbul next year and lots of lovely Dvorak. Dennis has sorted out some books to get rid of (at last!) and has returned to Sligo. Went to York libr...
