St John's day

St John's day at Caterham. Played Campbell on Grafton as we sang "Word supreme" Rowley Christmas suite and John Cook Paean on Divinum mysterium. No drinks at vicarage as their son-in-law is dying. Bought art materials at The Works. Lunch at The Kerala delicious so avoiding the football match at home. Arrived at Selhurst at just the right time to avoid the worst of the football crowds and get parked at home. Enjoyed Merton college evensong. Well done Benjamin Nicholas and Tom Featherstonhaugh and Alex Little. Interested to note Christmas cards for Son and Son-in-law, Daughter and Daughter-in-law. Listening to Sunday worship - not my musical style at all but excellent contributions from Dominic Robinson and Sarah Teather. Have managed to read the Christmas Tablet online as the postman has again not delivered it but the crossword is impossible on screen. Prince Charles on Private Passions. Programme on  city wildlife and Antiques roadshow and animals in the snow. ...

Missing

Woke early intending to swim but found my creditcard holder was missing. Emails and Ritzys had it so collected it this evening - what a relief! Took Liz to hospital for scan then to Mass and on to art where everybody loved the video of the library exhibition. We are having a garden party in August. Organists committee. I have taken on 2 events and part of another. To Hillgate pub to meet some of the Saint Frai team at Lourdes. Lots of John's! Far too noisy. Dominic Robinson coming after 10 years away! Liz's directions hopeless and I walked too far. Programme on the Greeks.

Heythrop

Buses and tubes to get to Heythrop for first day of the marvellous Let him Easter in us conference. A cornucopia of riches. Michael Kirwan amusing, Philip Endean on Ignatius, Dominic Robinson on Benedict's "Deus caritas est" agape and eros and the Lutheran perspective from Barth and Balthasar. Edward Howells on Bernard. Dominic McLoughlin's poetry. Ahamad Achtar on Adam and Eve in the Qu'ran. Terrance Walsh on Hegel. Had to leave Nicholas King on Luke to get to St Thomas the Apostle Nunhead for the Aspirations evening. As always the students were impressive although I told one to stop making excuses and look me in the eye. Some who want to be in the arts, architect, football, engineering and construction, banking. Nice eats and Brendan Fitzgerald gave me a lift home. Liz at funeral. Great to see Sylvia, Patricia Morris, Ann Blackett, Philip Wood, Anna, Simon Gillespie, Jill today!

Ciarán

Could not get to cathedral Lent group - morning spent cleaning and afernoon reading. To 5.30 Mass too late to serve. Boys sang Goller Mass, Handel Wash me throughly and Wesley Lead me Lord - lovely. Fr Alexander. Coffee latte at Starbucks. To cathedral hall for Faith matters lecture by Professor John Morrell of Cambridge. Met Ausra Liz's new tutor and Fr Dominic introduced me to the speaker. Interesting insight into Catholic history and how many priests survived Elizabethan persecution! Some interesting questions too. Tube and 266 bus to Acton and watching Big fat gypsy wedding and Richard Dimbleby lecture. Wednesday took Ciarán and Louise to music in car but he was not bothered at all so gave up. After a nice chicken wrap we drove home and he slept. It did not take him long to find the Thomas DVD, books and track and later he played in the house in the garden and had a lovely bath. He loved his new Thomas blowup bed! More reading and Liz watching One born every minute. Going to Al...

Modern organ works

At practice last night delighted that Vickie joined the sopranos. We rehearsed "Rejoice in the Lord alway" and worked on diction in the carols. Louise came to stay overnight to borrow the car to go to Basingstoke for Rufus's birthday party - she had her work do and looked very glam. Ciarán did not like her silver shoes! To St Laurence Catford and arrived early. Michael Bonaventure played Games by Paul Patterson (enormous score) and a piece called The Swim which did nothing for me and Toccata by David Bedford who died this year. Coffee afterwards and interesting chat to choir member on art. To Heythrop for end of term party of Liz's course. Jon Dal Din came and good chat to Fr Dominic Robinson. Friendly bunch and loads to eat and drink. Did some more reading and Liz came home with tummy trouble from milk last night. I served at Mass and Fr Gerard sang beautifully (in pink). Nick was there and spoke to Eugene and I spoke to his Mum. To Turnham Green and taxi to Acton to...
