Dame Evelyn Glennie

Swam 21 because the bat woman was going up and down and there was a slow woman in the lane! Liz came too. To mosaic and got all the gold and white beads done! The Cadogan hall Prom was Dame Evelyn Glennie who is 50. Tried drawing her and the hair is a problem. Got Petroc quite well the second time! Amazing memory. Liz went to the Zoo and I headed for Tate Modern. The Agnes Martin did not impress but I enjoyed drawing a Barbara Hepworth. I had tea in the friends room and foudn out that my card was refused. It seems Liz used the wrong pin on Friday in between the Proms in the bar and thus it was blocked. It will take 5 days to get a new one! Did  a drawng of the Old Bailey.  I went to Somerset house to see the excelletn Ben Uri gallery centenary exhibition - an interesting film. The No 9 bus was diverted so ended up walking from South Kensington  -cannot understand why. The introduction to the concert by Rachel Leach was great with all the kids joining in. 2 concerts and poppies

Lie-in reading the Rabbi's daughter. I fell on my knees one entering the gallery last night - just got knocked in the rush and I'm OK but found I was dropping things today including tea on my trousers. Had a horrid dream about being in a hired car with Ann in the front and Liz in the back and we somehow ended up on a river beach and had to get out quick as the car sank. Paul was in a small digger spinning round and round! To St Stephen Wallbrook for Richard Hall and Midori Jaeger playing Brahms, Martinu and Part on cello and piano - quite mesmerising - my drawing not very good. To Whitechapel gallery but unimpressed by Paolini. To the Tower to see the amazing poppies. To Morley college for the open day. I was early but there seemed to be no proper system in place and art students had to go across the road any way. Met Stephen Wright the drawing tutor who is very nice but they seem to want you to do 2 terms which is expensive - £18 a session! To Rachel Leach's intro to the ...

Angela Udall

A good breakfast and the hotel was busy. We left our bags and walked through the town to Priory Street. Saw ruins of St Botolph's priory the first Augustinian priory in Britain and 10.30 for Angela's funeral. Interesting to learn more about her - she sang in 16 choirs! The organist did well - the church is carpeted and the Mander is baroque and works quite well. 3 hymns. The priest knew Angela for many years. We met Lindy and Denys (did not recognise them) and we walked with them to the George in the High Street for nice reception where we met Angela's niece and enjoyed reminiscing. We then visited Colchester castle which is impressive (but no senior rate) - lovely Roman and mediaeval objects. Walked back to hotel and then on to the station to get 3.38. I went to Rachel Leach's family introduction to the Prom and Jurowski conducted LPO in Planets, Schoenberg and Scriabin Prometheus with lighting effects. It was brilliant but the audience insisted in clapping every move...

Another great day

Swam 20 and saw Claire. the photography is not well displayed, took returns parcel for Amazon to garage. Chatted to Ann and then lunch and to Cadogan Hall for first Monday prom of Rameau. Chatted to Judith and John who had seen on the bus. I was not looking forward to an hour of harpsichord based music but in fact it had a lot of variety and humour. Pity the titles were not translated from the French by Petroc or in the programme. Latte and carrot cake at Peter Jones on a voucher Liz had. Had a look at the beds but could not see the one Liz ordered for us! To Wellington Arch (at last!) for a wonderful exhibition about World War 1 memorials and the Arch itself. Great to see historic footage and the views from the top are splendid. Had a look at the Royal Artillery memorial close up - it has been restored. I have long admired the Machine gun corps memorial in passing. The Anzac memorial is also strangely understated but impressive. To Royal Academy for Radical Geometry South America...
