The organist librarian

Today the Church teases us! Being at work I read morning prayer at 7 a.m. I love the ancient homily about "Awake O sleeper" as Christ goes to raise Adam and Eve to life. The Westminster diocesan Lent booklet "A holy nation" is completed and it has been excellent. "The Road to Emmaus" continues until Monday in the company of Julian of Norwich who has been mentioned in homilies a lot recently! It is a glorious spring day with just a touch of coolness in Battersea Park. The blossom is coming out on the trees around the library showering the ground with white petals. Tonight we celebrate the greatest Feast of the Year, the Easter Vigil with baptisms and confirmations. It is a little sad they I am not playing the organ for this celebration any more but of course tomorrow I will be letting rip with full organ especially in "Saraband for the morning of Easter" by Herbert Howells. The first of the Lent group meetings using the booklet "A Holy Nation" on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. went well and we had a useful discussion. The booklet is excellent. I am also reading "The Road to Emmaus" by Helen Julian CSF. This week she focuses on the Venerable Bede.Last week it was Thomas Traherne. We went to an interesting lecture about Traherne at Hereford Cathedral when we were staying at Belmont. I have never read the Bede's history of England. This photograph is of the Westminster primatial cross, which is actually very heavy to carry. I needed a crucifix for the Lent Group so I bought a simple wooden one at Knock.

On Thursday evening I travelled up to Kentish Town. There was just time to hear Fr Tim's excellent homily at the 5.30 p.m. Mass on St. Peter's comment "You are the Christ". The training session for small group leaders was held in the hall of Our Lady help of Christians which looks like a fine church from the outside in the dark! Everyone was very friendly and Mark from the Westminster agency for evangelisation gave an excellent powerpoint presentation and plenty of time for us to discuss ideas. I got Thameslink as was (now some such name as Centrerail) back to Tulse Hill and the bus home which took about 70 minutes so plenty of time to read "The Tablet"! I produced a poster for the Lent groups featuring the cover of the booklet and a lovely free prayer card we were given, This shows the Metropoiltan cross which is actually very heavy to carry!
