Tony Potter

Liz at Acton and servers council dinner. To St Mary's for 9 a.m. practice tme lost by morning prayer then told to play! I played Faure, Elgar and Handel and Brahms. Fr Michael very friendly. The ladies turned up to sing plainchant mass setting unaccompanied - not bad. Fr M announces nothing and adds to the Mass all over the place particularly bad during the censing of the coffin. Louise Sage there. I got to Bandon Hill cemetery in the end having got slightly muddled. Tony was buried with Bernadette. To Wndmill pub and Felicity and Hilary were there and John Beers' wife. Met Michael Mead and 2 singers from Southwark cathedral Thursday singers - it was my email which alerted Peter Wright to the funeral. To LJS for Channukah. Paul Champain director of 3 Faiths forum spoke and the mixed-up chorus sang well, We learnt 2 songs and 4 candles were let. Met several people over doughnuts - John usher at cathedral, Bishop Michael Ipgrave, Michael Redman, Alan Rainer. Home to watch The Ap...

Church Army

Woke at 7 but dropped off so no swim. I went to South London interfaith lunch where we heard about the campaign against the arms trade, then to Chanukkah with William Rhind at Liberal Jewish synagogue (Michael Redman was there) and to Kidbrooke for commissioning of Bonny's husband as Church Army evangelist. Took ages to find Onespace in the dark!

SPIDIR conference

Swam 20. Liz slept late. To Southwark cathedral for the SPIDIR AGM and conference. The Weston library is too hot and acoustics are poor. 50p for the loo is a bit much. There was lukewarm coffee in the morning and water and that was it! I did get to hear Richard Pilliner play Bach and Saint-Saens at lunchtime and sketched a candle and flowers. Bishop Michael Ipgrave, Ahmad Akhtar, Dr Rebecca Masterton spoke in Islamic spirituality. After lunch the 2 from Khayaal theatre in Luton led a workshop on a Shia story and got us to volunteer. It was excellent. A short meditation using the names of Allah. It all cost £10 and an opportunity was missed to welcome newcomers like 4 of my class. I do not think Rita told them we were coming! Home to make beds, change to summer quilts and put up the new light shades in the hall.

Dennis's birthday

Swam 20. To mosaic and tile adhesive to attach 2 on netting to boards. Tai chi. To CLC Ave Maria Lane near St Paul's to get Real Advent calendars - very helpful staff and nice shop. To Tate Britain - impressive new areas and staircase and lovely members room upstairs . To Europa House Smith Square for 10th birthday of London Boroughs interfaith forum - lots of people I know. Bishop of Woolwich and Lord Bates spoke well. Left in good time with Katharina to get to Crystal Palace for 7.15. Very nice birthday dinner for Dennis - whitebait, steak, pancake, birthday cake and cappuccino.                                                                                                                      ...

Swam 20 which made up for missing out yesterday -got there no costume! Today was the Visitation and thought about lovely Ein Kerim and the Magnificat tiled panels. Booked 3 ENO operas for next season - had to ring box office in the end - they had old email address despite us changing that address before! The new secret seat for £20 should be good as you find out close to the time where you will sit in stalls or dress circle! I wonder what they do if everybody books that way??? On the other hand it must ensure more seats are sold. To Norwood and train to London Bridge only to find trains to Plumstead cancelled and very little advice. Luckily met Siriol and Michael Bishop of Woolwcih so to New Cross and then a long bus ride. They got off the bus too early - we got to the Greenwich Islamic centre after 2 and were ushered into the youth club in a sort of outhouse and given water and biscuits. No tea and no sign of loos. After some good speeches from Archbishop Kevin, the Bishop and local ...
