Swam.  Stunning music at St Cecilia service at Westminster cathedral.  Michael Berkeley  new work a wonder from a small cell. Schutz, Malcolm and Croce and superb Stanley on trumpet. Martin Baker said to tell him if there are concerns about music. Lovely singing from Francesca Pringle accompanied by Martin Ford at St Matthews Westminster - she just needs to get her face to match what she is singing! Nice chat to Martin who is now at the Guards chapel.  Lo The day ended with an excellent meeting at St Mary Magdalene Canning Road with Helen Bradley and the Bishop of Croydon speaking on Safe passage and religion in the lives of young asylum seekers. It is appalling that everything is done to make it hard for the people who have the right to come here to actually do so. 36% turnout is a disgrace and UKIP have won far too many seats. Croydon went Labour. Swam 20. Spent the day putting up the pictures in the hall. To 5 p.m. vespers combined choirs of Westminster Abbey and cathedral - Victoria and Bassano, Martin Ford played Bach. Canon Jane Hedges's last service in Westminster as she is to be Dean of Norwich. It was nice to see her. I did not hang around for a drink (if there was one!) as Louise was coming with the boys. Saturday to Joanna's for breakfast at 10 a.m. = delicious. Dennis arrived with chocolate and books about trains! Louise took the car to the garage - there is a small hole in cooling system pipe so she borrowed our car. We served at 2.30 p.m. Golden Jubilee Mass of Fr Tony Brunning and Fr Tom Wiley. Nice food in hall - Pam Winters there. Served at 6 p.m. Mass with Fr Alexander. Tuesday back to swimming. Heather and Fred arrived at East Croydon from Crawley. We have not seen them for 3 years since our South African visit. They haven;t changed at all. Liz took Ann to see Grandma in hospital and she was so much better since the wedding. Liz cooked a lovely meal with a chestnut and raspberry pavlova and we enjoyed sitting in the sun and looking at old photographs. We took all 3 to East Croydon so Ann could get the bus to Heathrow. It has been a wonderful holiday and it was such a joy being together again. Liz and I visited Grandma in hospital and Ann rang from the airport. Wednesday swim and shopping. Cleared up after yesterday and did some more blog. Also Facebook for wedding photos. To St Michael's for Martin Ford's recital which was very good - Bach, Buxtehude, Durufle, Vierne, Hakim. I went to visit Grandma and she had at last had the scan on her leg. A blood clot had been found so she was on new injections to thin her blood. Dennis and AnnMarie came from Harlow and Dennis had a meeting with the whole team about the nursing and medical care so at last something is happening. I went round to Sharon's to take the cheque and she was busy working on the stunning flowers. Did various odd jobs -cleaning shoes, ironing while Liz was the hospital. Also listened to 2 proms on HDD - Concertgebouw playing Debussy and Wagner sublimely under Haitink and the Martinu piano concerto No. 4. Liz went with Ann to collect the cake and take the decorations to the Roehampton club. I went to hear Dame Gillian Weir at the cathedral. De Grigny, Vierne and a splendid Toccata, Fugue and hymn on "Ave maris stella" by Flor Peeters. The Reubke sonata was the most familiar piece and the highlight.
