At lunch time to Battersea Park bandstand for Music in the park - local schools performing for each other and a handful of spectators! Andrew was there with the band from Battersea technology college - he is getting married next month! Sacred Heart Roehampton sang well including "This little light of mine". Chesterton school sang a song (not sure of the language - some of our trouble makers in the group grinning away!) and percussion group banged away! Sir James Barrie group did a pop song about knife crime. Took leaflets about the book sale to the Pump House gallery and cafe. After work to Lighthouse pub for Elizabeth's farewell. Doris had produced a lovely card and nice presents including rosemary plants. Rosemary for remembrance. David and Calix came and it was great to chat to them. Beer expensive but had lovely lemony Lepping (?) made by Trappists. Staff from Battersea technology college were there to for a leaving do and spoke to head and Eunice the librarian. Home ...

Saturday to work and Elizabeth's last working day. To Vespers and Mass when we had extra servers including Emmanuel who I calmly told that we looked after this Mass. He and Noel wanted to do all sorts of extras like offertory procession but we vetoed it. Mgr Mark celebrated and gave an excellent homily about Roadrunner ( he said he felt like coyote who is suddenly no longer on firm ground)and planting seeds. The farewell party in the hall was a bring and share and there was loads to eat. Chatted to lots of folk including Judith a reader who I had not spoken to before. Gave Fr Mark 2 CDs (Addiscombe and Coulsdon) and he got lots of gifts and nice speeches. He will be back from Rome one day in a different capacity! A sad but happy day. Bruce is OK after his cyst op but insisting on cycling!

Woke up early again so wrote to Malcolm Hicks M.P. about the Human fertilisation and embryology bill and the Battersea Crane disaster. I can deliver these letters on my way to the pool. Boiler was turned off at the library on Tuesday and I was most impressed that fan heaters were supplied within the hour! Man came to inspect last night and told me the boiler was 22 years old. The woman who was so rude to Elizabeth and received a letter came in to apologise. I was amazed so see who it was and she is usually very pleasant. It turns out she is a defaulter any way. I told her she must apologise to Elizabeth. A busy day - came to look at guiding. Doris will have to stop putting up so many posters and leaflets. Doris retires in September. I stressed the need for better guiding and outlined my plans for a rearrangement of the adult library which has been the same for 5 years.
