Liz had the scores for last night's concert. Ligeti's Lontano is almost impossible to follow and must require great courage to know when to play! Bravo National Youth orchestra! The trains have been changed yet again so going later as the bells seem to be on holiday! Bells were back and actually started again while I was playing! Played Karg Elert Nun danket for our wedding anniversary also Peeters and Philip Moore on All Saints. Mozart Ave verum at communion. Fr Jerry got me to illustrate his quiz with Jerusalem and Panis angelicus which is top of the charts! Had a good chat about the washing of feet and Lourdes. The congregation sang Shrine Mass 1 well. The 2 Brandenburg Proms did not come over well in the hall. Harpsichord was lost. Brilliant trumpet and solo playing but I dropped off and the same at the talk on classic literature. Marilyn brought lovely cakes from Oakham bakery. Swam 20. Spoke to Ann - had a chat about South America - wait until autumn 2014! It would eb possible to do a cruise in between my course sessions! To Heythrop library after lunch for last session looking up periodicals and presented donations. Larry not here. Liz submitted her PowerPoint again - the one that did not go through properly and she was unfairly penalised! To Marks - had a look at jackets - £99! Tea, bun and fruit and bought nuts and a baquette. The Pre Prom talk was on Sylvia Plath and the Bell Jar published 50 years ago. An excellent convert. Mitsuko Uchida playing Beethoven 4 and Berlioz - on TV so watched Ligeti encore at home! Uchida played a Bach Sarabande as encore. 

Unsurprisingly we woke later than expected and drove to Elmers End to get train to Lewisham. The signage there was nil so instead of getting the DLR to Greenwich we got a train to Blackheath and a bus then walked in the rain to the park where we went through security smoothly and got a buggy ride to the actual venue at 10 a.m. I have complained about Lewisham. The volunteers were again great and really enjoyed watching the dressage with the music. Storm came over so got wet again then it cleared up but windy. Decided not to visit Maritime Museum exhibition on the river and long walk to DLR Greenwich and to Lewisham and train back. Had lunch and then off to pre Prom talk with 3 members of the Berlin Phil all from Massachusetts! They were not very forthcoming but learnt a bit about the Ligeti. The Berlin Phil played superbly for Simon Rattle - Wagner, Sibelius 4, Debussy Jeux and Ravel. No encore! Packed. Chatted to June and Spanish lady. Liz fell asleep and missed the 20 minute deadline...
