Interfaith sharing

Swam 20 and Liz came. Practised some Buxtehude on the piano. To Chislehurst to collect Catenian recruitment banners and took them to Colin's - 90 minutes. Late for Mass at Heythrop - it was the UCL chaplain celebrating Fr Peter Wilson. Had lunch and to coffee in hall where book sale was going on. Worked in library. First interfaith sharing of the term - 13 there, Islamic society did not support and only Abigail from the Jewish society. Chatted to Andrew and everybody contributed so that was fine. Michael Barnes on engaged Buddhism which was interesting. Got petrol on hill - had to pay in advance, checked tires. Watched Gareth Malone work choirs semi-final. It seems we get our results by post next week and have to ask for the comments. Support growing for nomination of Damien for Principal's prize.

Bronze and pre-Raphaelites

Swam 26 because I was late. To Heythrop to hand in finance forms - charges have gone up. Met Michael Smith resplendent in blazer and off sailing for a fortnight. Meeting with Fr Rocco about interfaith sharing. Jonathan Gorsky said he had 2 lectures on Thursday but that is the day that suits my class! Wednesday next term but not this term please! Volunteered to help at Freshers' fair next Thursday. To library. 9 to Royal Academy for the outstanding Bronze exhibition. Brian Sewell in the Standard criticised the glass cases and the lighting but some of the lighting is brilliant! Loved the Roman satyr, Il porcellino, beautiful horse's head, Indian Gods - some remarkable work. To Tate Britain to see Pre-Raphaelites - not my favourite art but I did like the Paradise room with furnishings and carpet. Lots of people at both places. Wait for 88 bus and Michael Redman saw me outside the Abbey. Combined evensong with the Cathedral choir - Stanford psalm, Clucas responses, Palestrina, Vict...

This is my friend

At the sharing yesterday   I found myself speaking about Jesus as my friend and how love is at the centre of my faith. Love of God, love of Liz and the family, love of friends and community - I think was well-named as St John so often writes about love. The lady I was sharing with suddenly burst into song when we shared with the whole group - a song I didn't know about how God holds us fast. I could have responded with "My song is love unknown" "This is my friend in whose sweet praise I all my days would gladly spend" or "Friend and brother may I know thee more clearly, follow thee more nearly and love thee more dearly day by day." I was amused that Jerry the choir leader at Heythrop left the room before the session saying it was too scary.I hope it wasn't scary - I think everyone contributed in the one to ones and lots of people spoke int he general session. It was so interesting that my Jewish friend and I have had similar journeys growing up in...

Interfaith

Swam 28. Liz to Tooting for course on Verbum Domini and then servers rehearsal at cathedral. I read Bowker article and did email group for students on this module many of whom finish this year. To South London interfaith lunch and a good turnout. Talks on fasting from Rabbi Philip, Ganesh, John and Muslim - did not realise Ramadan can mean giving up TV as well as food and drink all day! To Heythrop for second interfaith sharing and Rocco asked me to help facilitate. 27 there including several from my class and it went really well - very chuffed! As Sr Simon said there is clearly a need for this! Last lecture on alGhazali and Sufism and then to the pub and Michael Smith treated us all. Sad to say goodbye to some great friends. Ben had picked up my diary so that's a relief! Gave Jerry Music and Liturgy magazines.
