To Mass and art good work on Angel musician. Delicious fish for lunch. Saw Clare in her garden lovely day. Waste of time going to Croydon planning committee. 5 objectors to Crystal Palace football ground given 3 minutes between us. I gave up after an hour on John Lewis site . Bridget West played well at St John's. 90 minutes journey to Acton 30 minutes outside Clapham Junction. Last night Southern could not agree on cause of delay of 30 minutes. Driver started with congestion into Victoria then blamed signals. At station the board said dealing with emergency t caused it. Why not just say We can't run anything? Now they say bear with us as we upgrade. Why should we? They should lose the contract full stop. A hot day cataloguing in the library. 6 volunteers and a good meeting with Anna and Reading co-coordinator so feeling much happier. Decided not to go to V and A and Exultet at Hammersmith home for a shower and rest. My right big toe hurts.Sean commented this morning "Why...

Grangewood Park

To Selhurst train delayed so drove to Norwood Junction. Train on time then delayed at East Croydon. Why can't trains run on time?  Played Sheep may safely graze and Finlandia favourites of Liz's Mum and Dad. I also played Come unto him from Messiah. Train cancelled so on buses home.  Enjoyed the sunshine at Friends of Grangwood park picnic and excellent Norwood society tour of the park. Bought some good local history books. Saw Claire Kedves  Dennis Woodhouse   Ann- Marie Woodhouse  and Henry.  How I enjoy a recital where we smile and Bridget West certainly achieved that. Very elegant playing at Dulwich. The Tambling based on Sagina prompted me to sing "And can it be that Daniel is wearing shorts?" Nice eats. Interesting programme on 90 years of Wimbledon.

Francis Jackson

Sketching at St Stephen Norbury. Went up to the organ but could not get it to work! To Farm St to see Sr Catherine (she was pleased that I am trying to get to daily Mass) then to the Estorick collection to see the works by Balla - well worth the trip. Excellent joint recital by  Bridget West  and Adrian Adams at St John Upper Norwood. Good to hear some Francis Jackson (100 in October) Buxtehude, Howells, Elgar, Guilmant and JSB, We picked up Dennis and Henry on good form, Molly not impressed! Liz made delicious fruit loaf for it.

Bridget and Adrian

To Ciaran's assembly - they all sang and spoke so well and it was sweet! All so happy! To Dr Ojo to have ears syringed and I have arthritis in right thumb. Lots of emails and practised for Sunday. Liz getting ready to go away to Walsingham, To St John;s for excellent recital by Bridget and Adrian - 65 there! Wesleys, Reger, Peeters, Bossi, Franck, Ives. Marilyn Harper, Richard Pilliner, Millingtons there

Bridget's birthday

Had a lie-in. Did the ironing and sorted out the shed so the keyboard is now stored there. After lunch to the vicarage garden which is looking lovely. Bridget's 40th birthday so we had sandwiches and cakes and champagne. A lovely afternoon - very pleasant. We left to park at West Norwood but Liz had runny tummy so she came home. I served Mass with Fr Michael Quaquo and we had 4 servers, I decided not to go to the Prom but came home hitting football crowds. The film music was good if a bit samey in the second half. Also listened to Young Apollo (Britten), Berkeley serenade for strings and Britten simple symphony from the Proms with scores.

Ciarán comes to stay

On Tuesday more reading so did not get to Lent group at the cathedral. Went to 5.30 Mass and then to the Faith Matters lecture on Catholic history - good audience. To Acton. Wednesday to music but Ciarán not bothered at all so Louise removed him and we ate downstairs. Drove home and he lost little time in finding the DVDs, train track and books! In the afternoon went in the garden and played with the trucks and in the house. Thursday Louise went to see Chardie's new baby and Ciarán happily played and we chatted to Ann. Bridget came for tea  and brought him some socks and gingerbread men. Bruce came. Louise back so we all went swimming. I went to college and an interesting seminar and lecture on hadith. I did manage to read one article during the day and Michael showed me how he gets onto JSTOR. Home to watch Catholics. Friday up early and made track and read 3 Thomas books before 7.45! He loves his new blowup Thomas bed and slept very well.
