The organist librarian

In the end I took Henry swimming and he did well! They set off for Ireland despite wind and hurricane Dennis.  Cardinal Donald Wuerl at Mass. Huddersfield youth choir sang Haydn and Palestrina. Cardinal Vincent introduced him and the team did very well. He thanked all of us personally and I told him I had played the organ in the Anglican Washington cathedral but not the RC one. He is a controversial figure, Sunday  Horrible weather. We sang Fairest Lord Jesus arranged Martin How. I played Sidney Campbell Impromptu on a French church melody Grafton and the Dorian fugue. Met Vi Nightingale's daughter and son-in-law. She was 92 and still singing!  Storm Dennis definitely worse than last Sunday. Socks and trousers changed on reaching home and my spare socks in my rucksack were too wet to use when I reached church! Better start building the ark. Elaine was being bossy again! Liz upset about Trevor's funeral but Adrian confirmed we are singing on Thursday so the boys will go...

Saturday at 6 p.m. and the feast of St Michael and all Angels marked by Teresa Munro celebrating her first Eucharist. Her sister joined us in the choir to sing alto and her sons were the impressive readers at the service. We began with "For all the saints" and the Peter Jones Gloria. The setting was the yellow card one so everyone could join in and the singing was splendid. We have a gospel to proclaim, Angel voices ever singing and Thine be the glory were the other splendid hymns. Christine Spurway preached. At communion the choir sang "Christ has no body now but yours" by David Ogden and "Strengthen for service Lord the hands" both at Teresa's request. I played the Dorian fugue. An excellent meal of chicken in sauce ("ordination chicken") and salads with wine and strawberry cream cake. I just missed the train so got buses home. Liz was at the cathedral where the choir of St Michael's school, Finchley sang and she took Dennis's medic...
