Sydney

Tuesday we went to Taronga Park zoo on the ferry. It turned out to be a lovely day. We saw reptiles including a snake being handled, giraffes, baby elephants from Thailand and an elephant play show, Liz saw a gorilla baby. Binturong, deer, got the little train to see Tasmanian devils, platypus, wombat and nocturnal animals like echidna. To St Mary's cathedral for sung Mass by the boys and saw Thomas Wilson. He had been in Bunbury for opening of the new cathedral. Clare cooked.
Wednesday to Manly after I had a swim and Liz went shopping. Had Copenhagen icecream and came back on the ferry. Ann met us at St James King Street for evensong sung by the St Mary's boys. They did well. To Circular Quay for meal with Thomas and met Mark Fisher at the opera house stage door. Took us up into the organ which is the largest mechanical action organ in the world. I played 3 pieces including Dad's march. Mark knew Mum and Dad. Thomas played Bach, Gershwin and Widor Toccata. Went right up inside the organ - amazing!
Thursday to Ann's school and her class were very interested in the organ - showed video of me playing at Auckland. Had a swim. On ferry to Homebush - a nice run. Went out to Lebanese restaurant with Ann and Paul which was lovely.
Visited a lovely book shop in Leichardt. Friday wasted time going to post office - it would have cost £80 to send 4 parcels by sea so decided not to send them! In fact we were underweight. To St Stephen's uniting church for recital by Edward Turner. Saw Mark Quarmby. Met Ed at Lindt afterwards and had a chat. He plays well. Home for barbecue and then to Botanical Gardens for "As you like it". An excellent production - some rain before it started and bats flying about and making a noise. No amplification allowed and glad of hearing aids.
Saturday rain again so to new Enmore pool with Ann - swam 17. Ferry to Darling harbour and then met Lauren. Had coffee with Ann and Paul before they went to the play at opera house. We had picnic and watched lights go off at 8.30 for earth hour. Lauren gave ideas for Bangkok. Liz did online shopping order. State election results out with massive swing to Liberals. Amazed at razzmatazz surrounding election venues and results.
Sunday to Bronte Beach with Clare and Ann for breakfast - had blueberry waffles with banana and ice cream! Ann accompanied us to St Mary's cathedral Mass celebrated by Cardinal Pell with new text for Eucharistic prayer. Bishop preached. Byrd 4 part Mass and motet and Palestrina well sung. Amazed to see Michael Fletcher does not wear shoes to play. Saw Thomas after Mass. Bought prawns ar David Jones and had them for lunch with strawberry champagne and gelato with Baileys. To airport and online checkin meant we jumped a massive queue. Liz very upset that her embroidery scissors were taken away by security. Scissors and knife taken at Christchurch airport - left in bag by mistake.
