Spirituality

To Bishops conference Spirituality day on Art of dying well with Pia Matthews and the ministry of consolation. Inspiring! Wellcome teeth and Somewhere in Between puzzling. Why replicate a gay sauna to comment on HIV? Heythrop lecture on Divino afflante Spiritu spoilt by a rude heckler. Great to see Marcin Mazur, Sylvia and Jonathan. Woke early at Acton and spent a busy day in the library. Have emptied several boxes and catalogued all non-fiction and a lot of picturebooks. Discussed with Anna the forthcoming staff meeting. Henry has come to sleep and had gone to sleep quite happily! Watched Chester zoo and Antiques roadshow and the end of Indian summer school.

Spotlight

Another extraordinary day. To see Spotlight (£5 pensioner rate at Clapham Picturehouse!) This is a brilliant film but deeply disturbing. The extent of clerical child abuse is truly horrifying and every bishop and cardinal who hid it should resign To the Wellcome to see the excellent Tibetan tantric exhibition. Met Sara Thorley and earlier in the day  Jeremy Travers . Candlemas at St Paul's with incense and procession. Holst, Hassler and Eccard and the Bach prelude. Excellent sermon on the dark and light in the church. . Only in that way can the Church be seen to trying to move forward. Secrecy must be challenged. Final pleasure of the day Alexandra Palace with John Pryer who played the Dorian and Katherine Smith trumpet playing Handel, Haydn, Lovelock and Street and joining in the brilliant improvisation on the Teddy Bears' picnic! Nice chat to Jack and Derrick. Quick journey to Acton just caught the Overground at Highbury! Wed took Sean to Tamar's and he sang the monkeys ...

War and Medicine

Thursday to Wellcome collection to see display "War and medicine" pretty gruesome but fascinating. Did not see clip of nurse Vicky Treacy in Darfur whcih we had seen on Faye's Face book. To chorus and Rachmaninov Vespers movements. The Arvo Part "...And he was the son of..." proved to be witty and fun! Edward very enthusiastic about it all. Friday to take practice. Molly making real progress, Karen back but coughing - she was chatty. The CD of the new Alan Smith anthem very helpful. Dom Brendan likes the blog!

Health and safety

Thursday and Friday course at Putney for health and safety reps. Quite interesting although one of the rooms was noisy and hot. I tried my hearing aids for one morning but they make my ears feel tired. Thursday to lunch at Wetherspoons pub The Railway in Putney - lamb mint burger and non-alcoholic lager for under £5. Pub has a small model railway at ceiling height. I found the jokey atmosphere of the dustmen, stonemason a bit trying. Health and safety is a serious matter and we were there to learn. The role play was interesting. To exhibition at the wellcome collection "From atoms to patterns; crystal structure designs from the 1951 Festival of Britian. To chorus and Edward Caswell rehearsing "Elijah". Terry Edwards was there - he is advising on new chorus master. Friday had a picnic at lunch time and read Arthur Wills's autobiography (which needs an editor). I met him once when I visited Ely cathedral in 1973. Friday to Lighthouse pub for farewell to Calix.
