A royal night out

Liz took Ann Marie to work and then took me down to AgeUK where I got another tube for my hearing aid so I can change them myself. We went to Odeon Beckenham to see the film and enjoyed it. Margaret would have been 14 on VE Day and Rupert Everett did not look like or sound like the King but Jack was just a delight and lovely quips about class and the period.  Have things changed that much? Who are the wealthy now? And how sad that the Queen has had so little real freedom and yet served us so wonderfully for so long.  Watched Antiques roadshow. Liz went to Acton. I have cleared my diary - Rita will run the group tomorrow. I will rest and feel much better. The lovely lilies in a pot from last night much appreciated.

VE day

A good day at St Matthew's looking at strengths and weaknesses and what makes for a happy day (smiling in my case) - only 2 more sessions of the spiritual direction course left and then to Regent Street to finish the Ciarán portrait. Westminster cathedral VE day party turns out to have been cancelled so turning up in red white and blue with hats from the Last night a little pointless so we had an excellent dinner at Il Porto trattoria near Victoria and went up to Trafalgar Square - no sign of promised VE day floodlights but lots of flags in Parliament Square. Clegg, Miliband and Farage all resign! Was up to 3.30 a.m. watching election results. Sad to see Simon Hughes gone and Vince Cable. Ed Balls is no loss. Croydon central stayed Tory by 243 votes!
