The organist librarian

I got a thank you and Happy birthday at the service and the Polish cakes went down very well in the hall! I played Sidney Campbell on Grafton, Tambling on Slane and Brewer Marche heroique. It is good at 72 to be playing new music like the Brewer (well a first for me) and it is a great piece. By chance the hymns included favourites Father hear the prayer and Brother sister let me serve you plus that great tune Grafton and Jerusalem at the end! The choir of 4 sang Rutter A Clare benediction well. A delightful family lunch at the Rosendale. Claire came. Had beef. Nice cake at the end. It was noisy. Had a chat to Louise and Tom in the playground. Watched Antiques roadshow, Vanity Fair and programmes on the history of York and Belfast.

Farewell to Fr Duncan. We sang Litany to the Holy Spirit Peter Hurford and I got a clap for Toccata in D minor. I would have played the fugue but no time to practise as I just missed the early train. I was on the wrong platform! So 30 minute wait. Annoying especially as everyone got up to take me to the station. I reckon the emails on my phone distracted me. Delicious family lunch at the Rosendale and good service. Really enjoyed the panto at St John's - Myles was better than ever! Sean stole the show with his laugh and on stage too! Great fun! Busy clearing up.

The Triduum marathon is completed! I played for the 8 p.m. vigil at Anerley RC 3 hymns and Hallelujah chorus. 2 baptised, 1 received, 3 confirmations. It was much appreciated by Fr Sunith and Fr Stuart who sang superbly. So nice to have  Dennis Woodhouse  with us for dinner of pork and apple frangipane tart and at Mass. Home by 10.30 and straight to bed! Clocks forward and woke at 3.30 a.m. I was at St John Caterham by 5 a.m. magnificent full moon. It's 10 miles by car. The rain which had meant everything was indoors last night held off for the kindling of the new fire outside at 5.45 a.m. and we were launched on all 6 readings and Mawby psalms ably sung by Jill and Peregrine. Finished with Hallelujah chorus and off to a cooked breakfast. 10 a.m. at St John Caterham and an Easter egg well earned! Liz went to the cathedral where they sang Langlais. Picked up Dennis and took Ann and Paul to St Michael's. 61 there. We did sing the psalm as I found a chant for it. All went well and Fr Paul thanked choir and me at the end. Widor Toccata was appreciated - I have practised this hard and not played it in public for some years! It went reasonably well. To Rosendale pub for an excellent lunch of lamb. I had a lucky escape and did not get chocolate on my best trousers!  It was raining so the boys could not play outside. The Gruffalo eggs were appreciated. They all came back to us and I had some nice wine after surviving Lent (like Fr Paul). Later we went for a walk and had Baileys and ice cream. Dennis went back to Salford and will join us in York. Watched quiz about BBC2 featuring Gareth Malone and Brian Cox. Leicester cathedral TV broadcast was good. Pope Francis was impressive and last night's Vigil was on TV news!
