All Saints

Clocks went back an hour. Woke too early and dozed off. Up in good time left home 7.35 a.m. but on way to station in the car had to reverse up Dixon Road for a white van. Result missed train to Purley from where there was a bus replacement service. To Selhurst from Norwood Junction and to East Croydon. No trains to Purley so got bus 407. On organ at 9 a.m. Lourdes Gloria and Gathering not on sheet so did Murray. For all the saints cut to 5 verses and no procession. We sang "Holy is the true light" fairly well. I then started the communion hymn in D instead of F and realised on the second line so changed to F. I have never done that before. I think the travel disturbed my concentration. I played Howells Sine nomine and Flor Peeters well. Rehearsed for next 2 weeks. Never spoke to Jerry who had postponed meeting about Christmas because Anne Marie had a fall and broke her shoulder bone. Strangely Gisela had a fall off her bicycle and hurt her arm. Julie took posters and had don...

Trains

Swam 34 but the Hungarian Olympic type was splashing so got out early. At station 7.50 waited an hour to get a train - signal failure at Balham. With Marvin who swims and was due at a French exam to get into Canada! At library 10.20 a.m. Maureen brought childhood reminiscence box for Thursday. Did game plan. Updated chorus website.

Dec 7th

Well my peculiar sleep patterns are catching up on me. Waking at 1 a.m. and blogging for an hour can mean not waking at 6 a.m. to go swimming and this happened today. Still I had time as I was due at Clapham Junction for 9 a.m. and senior development meeting. Liz dropped me at the station as she went to get the ladders for the painting. I was on the train but it was not announced or I didn't hear it as I was reading my Advent devotional material. To my horror I end up at Streatham station so i take a train headed for Wimbledon. Alas I should have changed at Mitcham Junction or stayed on it to Wimbledon as I just missed the train to Victoria when we reached Sutton. I texted Jane to say I would be late and I was there 30 minutes late. The meeting was 4 and half hours and we did not discuss the most important item "Safeguarding children". I wonder why managers do not affirm staff more - thanks and good comments are easily forgotten if there are negative vibes about. We did h...

Marty Haugen

Tuesday to Tooting Bec school for 7 p.m. The session actually started at 7.40 p.m. Marty is sensational. I liked his stories and approach and especially the idea that the musician helps the community to remember. This is so true of many of our music choices. Learned some useful stuff including a song for the interfaith group from Ghana "May peace be in your homes" and a lovely end of day song. Stephen Dean did 2 of his numbers which were good. Met lots of people - Lyn, Dorio, folk from Thornton Heath (Lewis gave me a lift home) and Kilburn and Grove Park. Over 200 there! Quite an experience! On Monday I set off at 7 for Victoria to get a train to Beckenham junction for the Catenian meeting there but abandoned the attempt after 30 minutes as no trains going there. Had I gone the Crystal Palace route I would probably have got there!
