Harp and Peter Tyler

An interesting day.Coffee concert at St John's with the Dunn family - Kodaly Duo Op. 7 and gorgeous Ravel with the harp. I did not sketch as the playing was riveting! To Bethlem for Dr Peter Tyler on Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross on melancholia - fascinating. Tea at the Toby. Fr Andrew at Mass and Victoria choir sang well- Archer and Langlais. There was a small accident before Mass and Fr Daniel recorded it. More work on jigsaw sky -slow going!

Peter Tyler

An outstanding day at Meditatio centre Islington on St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross with Professor Peter Tyler of St Mary's Twickenham. It was a mini-retreat! Fr  Andrew Gallagher  at mass and the new junior choir's second outing. They sang the psalm this time and the Archer Christchurch Mass. Also an anthem by Andrew Reid. Can't say I liked the final voluntary much!

Teresa of Avila

Chris came to paint the door frame in the kitchen and plastered the back wall. Lovely day for it! Family Eucharist 30 there including lots of little kids! We did sing "Hail the day" and the Groves piece on Llanfair got a clap before the service! The rest of the hymns Make way. Majesty, All heaven declares and Jesus is Lord! all a bit too evangelical for my taste. I did play a Stanley voluntary and Bach prelude for Ascension. To St Paul's cathedral for Dr Peter Tyler's excellent talk on Teresa of Avila - he is amusing and engaging. I asked about interfaith and he was delighted to plug the St Mary's conference I am going to! To South Norwood country park for a lovely walk on my own. Home for tea and got petrol then to St Dominic Waddon for Mass for vocations for the circle. Only Derrick and Sheila were there! The brothers have had plenty of notice of these events! The organist was competent but seemed to use the same stops throughout. Fr Paddy is delighted with the...

The soul

Up early and found a contact at Croydon council about the torch relay. Swam 24 and chatted to Claire at the pool and Chai at Barber stores about the relay. Shocked to hear the council charge the traders to put on the Thornton Heath festival - £4000 including extra security because of the riots! To mosaic class and grouting. Skipped tai chi and to Heythrop. Saw Fr Rocco and Jerry and returned books to library. Did not get to Mass as collared by Ben about his late essay. To seminar on "The soul in Christian spirituality" Dr Edward Howell - lots on Augustine and Teresa of Avila. Met MA student working on Rowan Williams and Islam and an MA Spirituality from Cheshire working on celibacy. Damian was at first lecture. Chat to Tony Moynihan and applied for June booking in Fulham. Watched programme on Shakespeare and James I.
