Photo night

To art and sunset picture. South London interfaith group lunch and a talk from Shanti on Hindu view of creation led to discussion on Extinction rebellion.Ade Adepitan's series on Africa is fascinating. A most enjoyable evening judging Wimbledon circle photo night and the judges were in agreement! Excellent meal. We went to Mass at Sacred Heart Wimbledon for All Saints.

Humour in music

Mass at Anerley. To doctor only to find they think the appointment is next Friday which is not so. St Stephen Wallbrook for excellent recital by Laurence Lyndon-Jones Bach, Handel, Saint-Saens, Mendelssohn and Fiesta by Emma Lou Diemer. He is going into data science but will keep playing. I hope he does. Welcoming at the cathedral - 40 Sardinian teenagers with orange packs which reminded me of migrant lifejackets! Nice to see Kate. Home to watch Wimbledon. A very pleasant party at Adrian and Terence Roberts lovely garden apartment. Delightful coffee concert by the Ruskin trio at St John's. Nicholas Bucknall clarinet and church warden, Kate Musker viola and David Elwin piano. Mozart, Bruch, Francaix and Schumann. It was lovely to watch their facial expressions and I was amused at the idea of Mozart playing skittles and composing at the same time! 2 of our servers were among those confirmed by Bishop John Sherrington at Mass. Victoria choir sang. Nice to see Fr Mikey Mags!...

Henry

To Mass and Fr Stuart on his own. Henry came and would not go in paddling pool, We made chocolate cakes although the mixer scared him. Played and read stories and watched DVD. To quiet time and took Ann home. Checked music for tomorrow night. Wimbledon on TV. Watched part of Carmen live from the Royal Opera house. Strange production.

To Mass, Skipped art and listened to Neil MacGregor's talks on Living with the gods. To Streatham on 12 noon train and bus to South london interfaith group lunch. Interesting. To Clapham Picture to see The Death of Stalin hilarious black humour. Simon Russell Beale as Beria was outstanding.  Wimbledon Catenian photo night. Excellent duck dinner. I put in 9 photos and "Olive is 100" won the Family category, the Barbara Goulden trophy and wine!

Grangewood Park

Image
To Selhurst train delayed so drove to Norwood Junction. Train on time then delayed at East Croydon. Why can't trains run on time?  Played Sheep may safely graze and Finlandia favourites of Liz's Mum and Dad. I also played Come unto him from Messiah. Train cancelled so on buses home.  Enjoyed the sunshine at Friends of Grangwood park picnic and excellent Norwood society tour of the park. Bought some good local history books. Saw Claire Kedves  Dennis Woodhouse   Ann- Marie Woodhouse  and Henry.  How I enjoy a recital where we smile and Bridget West certainly achieved that. Very elegant playing at Dulwich. The Tambling based on Sagina prompted me to sing "And can it be that Daniel is wearing shorts?" Nice eats. Interesting programme on 90 years of Wimbledon.

Olympics at Wimbledon

Louise took Ciarán home in the car -  she is now working at home because of the Olympics. We went by bus and tram to Wimbledon and new shuttle bus to Wimbledon. We had excellent seats on Court No. 1 in the shade for £16 each! Saw Juan Monaco of Argentina beat David Goffin of Belgium. Serena Williams was great as was John Imber. Kim Clijsters beat Spaniard and to our surprise there was a first round men's double match - Roger Federer and Walianka beating Japanese pair in 3 sets = brilliant! Home by 10.15 p.m. after a fantastic day

Stainer

At evensong we sang Stainer in B flat and I saw the Lord and we had solemn benediction with unusually 4 servers. Cardiff singer of the world final was worthily won by Valentina from Moldova. The Ukranian baritone won the song final last night and was also excellent but all the finalists were brilliant in different ways. Interesting programme on the history of Wimbledon. I found more about the Tates and a book of prints by Ridsdale Tate signed by him. My grandmother and aunt had noted important dates to remember.
