Mexico
A most enjoyable day. Ashes at 7.30 and general absolution. Coach to General Juan N.Alvarez elementary school Chiapas. The tour company gave us school packs and sweets for the kids. Visited year 1 and 4 who were studying Mexican history. They use abacus and counting beads. Dancing very good. Banana plantation very labour intensive. It was hot. At the Catholic church the ladies gave us lunch. The community coop went out of their way to welcome 3 coachloads. Rest, spa, Paraguayan harpist Shirley Dominguez her dress didn't help! Brahms piano quintet. Piaf to Peanuts.
15.2 clicks went back an hour beautiful day and walked on deck twice. Mass at 8. Quiet day sitting on balcony and saw dolphins. Finished Chris Patten's First Confession a memoir. Liz went to Spanish class and I slept. Spa and late dinner after BBC Earth films. Ballet music with Roland excelling in The Swan. Fantastick Patrick and Indonesian show. Sumatran and Javan dances are fun.
16.2 Mass and Liz was early. Prayers to St Peregrine for cancer sufferers (who is he?). Reading Gordimer as a change from Duffy. Liz went to Mexican crafts and I went to ordering food in Spanish. Quintet played Dvorak Dumky trio and first mvt of Dvorak piano quintet no. 2 also Beethoven Ghost trio and Roland played Gluzunov Minstrel's song. Spa. David Meyer plays xylosynth and laser synth. I reckon he transposes everything into C. He has irritating habits like throwing his arms up at the end of every piece. His wife dances.
17.2 up early for tender to San Lucas lovely boat ride to Land's End to see the hollowed out rock, sea lions, pelicans. Then a scenic ride to San Georgio restaurant beer and a fantastic view. Shopping and rang Dennis no internet or phone for weeks. Meet the quintet and everybody expressed their appreciation. Read at Mass and that was appreciated. Finished July's people a very fine novel by Nadine Gordimer. Lobster at dinner.
The show was very good singers and dancers. Music trivia on 50s and 60s we knew very little. Chocolate surprise!
Sunday 18/2 reading group not keen on Sprout although Oprah clearly wants us all to learn something.Amazed to hear all cruises will read this book as it is not holiday reading! Couples Swedish massage was great.
Meet the captain interesting. Last spa session. American selection and lovely Brahms. Packed. David Meyer and Matt Disero show. Excellent film Wonder which several people recommended.
