Foot

Wed Jan 4 Liz to Guys. I went to Mayday for X ray of my left foot. Had to get into some uncomfortable positions!  Swim and took blisterpacks to Superdrug. Mary Beard interviewing Philip Pullman. Picked up Liz at station - she was finished early but has to go back for injection. We both went to West Norwood picturehouse to see Corsage which was beautifully done. I liked the sounds of the houses but not the modern pop soundtrack. Vicky Krieps was excellent as the Empress Elisabeth. Why did they have her jumping off a ship when she was assassinated in Geneva? Confusion over free tea for silverscreen - seems it was stopped yesterday? Macaques and wild dogs. Stonehouse.

Thurs 5th. Watched Pope Benedict's funeral. Some Cardinals with scarves and priests in woolly hats. Pope Francis look sad. Choir flat and no Mozart! Swim. Led Cheltenham Laudato Si' circle prayers using Ps 98, Friendly beasts and Jesus Christ the apple tree. 18 there. Repair shop, Make it to market, Netflix The Empress. Guy Consolmagno at St Paul's. The Apprentice is back! Watched the real John Stonehouse.

Friday Epiphany. 10 a.m. Mass at St Andrew's. Priest very slow and foudn i could hardly hear him on the loop. To St John's. I couldn't sing as I could not hear to pitch so sat in congregation. Gabrieli Missa Brevis and Warlock Bethlehem Down. To lunch at the Alma - had delicous roast squash - not cheap but nice. Good chat to Bob and Mother Rachel. Liz to Guy's for injection. Repair shop, Make it to market, the rest of the first part of The Empress. Would I lie to you? I am going to Guy's on Wednesday for hearing and wax removal Tuesday at 3. An early night but woke at 3 a.m.

Sat no SM, S and B. To St John's for well attended coffee concert by City river saxes. Nice to see Geoff there. It was better without left hearing aid although I had retubed it! Booked for Shaku at Fairfield on 50% offer. Played Buxtehude at Mass and the new music copies of the hymnbooks have come. Miriam Margolyes on equality in Oz, Marie Antoinette. Father Brown is back but no Mrs MacCarthy and Bunty. Instead we get the Vicar of Dibley's sidekick!

Played Buxtehude and Gade on How brightly shines and Peregrine sang Three Kings beautifully. I played the Buxtehude at Streatham Hill last night. Still having hearing problems despite retubing. Wax removal on Tuesday and audiologist on Wed. Richard Grant on writers who wrote about Spain. Liz rescued Fernanda Castell from Mexico. Her air bnb turns out to be above the corner shop. She is charming and had come from Barcelona. She came back later for pizza and wine and a lovely chat. Call the midwife, Shackleton's cabin, interview with Prince Harry. He came over well and made good points about the Press and the Palace colluding.

Monday got up late so missed chatting to Ann. Swim was a disaster - traffic bad and too many people. 2 classes there. To New Addington by car and Libby very pleased with me. Only 41mm left in bladder. Take Laxido every second day. Liz went to Phoenix centre for talk on conserving energy in the home. Excellent meeting with Colette Southern and Northern networks together. Excellent first meeting with 5 Sisters of Sion about LSI'. Only connect, University challenge, Claridge's rebuild, start of Twelfth Night from the Globe.

Tuesday very wet so no swim. B Fr Timothy, ears bad. Chat to Ann - she is having cataracts done. Finally got into Friends of LMP David Wright talking about harpsichords. Essex group. To Owens for wax clearance - it took a while as I had not been for months and the machine had to be changed. Chat to Clare. Liz went to Gatwick to meet Clare back from Cyprus but missed her! Gresham Chris Whitty on heart disease. CCC questions to Mayor Perry. Watched the rest of Twelfth Night from the Globe. I can see why it got bad reviews - a real muddle of costumes and set. Some funny moments. I don't think Sir Toby can be played by a woman! Harry coming in for lots of criticism - he was poorly advised and should have left some things out of the book.
