Bank holiday Monday

 Hot again. Chat to Ann. To Bromley parish church for an excellent recital by Katelyn Emerson who is such a joy to watch - so elegant and brilliant technique. Brahms, Bohm, JSB, Laurin, a jolly piece by Langlais, Widor. Gerge Baker evocations of Vierne and Cocherau very effective. Good audience. Chris Town had a car accident. Decided not to go to Southwark cathedral organ recital and fell asleep watching Animal Park! Interview with Dame Evelyn Glennie.

Tuesday quiet day. Liz to Guys. I gave a short talk about Franz Jagerstatter and VJ day at quiet time and read 2 extracts from Hope by Pope Francis about peace and war which led to lively discussion, The Leipzig Gewandhaus at the Proms. Beautiful Part and an intimate partnership in the Dvorak with violinist Isabelle Faust. Andris Nelsons conducting Sibelius 2 was fantastic! Such insight into the music. What a performance! Saw Adrian and the German pair.

Wednesday woke late. Practised at Beck Meth. Brought the rest of Martin's organ music home. Decided not to swim - too busy! Leaflet for Salford Mass taking shape and composed the psalm response. Superb Glyndebourne Figaro at the Prom and saw Damian and his wife.

Thursday woke late again. Art and started repainting the giraffe picture - the other one fell dwn behind the study desk and cannot be retrieved! Aerobics. No swim - too busy. We went to showroom to look at showers. Very confusing - came away with lots of brochures. Aviation biofuels webinar was very enlightening. They are NOT green! Searched for Christmas card design without success. Wrote talk for Kensington Sep 10. I enjoyed the Prom on radio 3. Bizet, Sarasate, Augusta Holmes and Saint-Saens Symphony no. 3. Destination X finished. Liz has been enjoying it.

Friday left early Coffee at Gaia. Muddleup about who had paid so we returned later for tea and paid then!. Beautiful Ancient India exhibition. The Japanese Hiroshige too crowded - better to look at the You tube video. Bought a Japanese woodcuts calendar. Took books to All Saints and enjoyed a chat to Antonio. Very relieved that One Call are refunding the money and cancelling the breakdown cover which Honda are providing. Sleepless night over this. Melbourne SO Prom disrupted - aboriginal rights? Dvorak 6 with score and Tchaik piano concerto 1. Sea done in jigsaw.

Sat SM from Hly Island dropped off. Jigsaw and listened to Prom LSO and Peter Moore trombone. Presenter awful. What was the encore? Mass leaflets printed for Salford. Mass at OLV met Rita and Fr Francis - his last weekend as he going to be youth missioner. Super Prom Handel Alexander's Feast encore Hallelujah chorus! Found out more about last night Jewish group who are pro-Palestinian shouitng in the gallery about a Palestinian pianist whose concert was cancelled by MSO. The orchestra stopped and then played on!

Sunday at Beck Meth played Elgar P and C 1 and 4 which was much enjoyed. More of Martin's organ music! Lionel’s final evensong was splendid! Wood Hail gladdening light, Stanford in A and Let all the world. Lionel played Allegro maestoso from Elgar sonata magnificently. Andy Scott, Harry Bramma, John Webber at the meal afterwards and met Dan the new director of music. He is tall. Watched again progrmmae on George Benjamin and as a result watched again his opera on Edward II. Bruce arrived so discussed bathroom.

Monday pool and aerobics. Liz went to crafts. Henry did not come. John Storgaards conducted Lady Macbeth of Mtsinsk at the Proms. Stunning sounds. Only connect.

Tuesday swim. Quiet time. Interesting session at Meditatio centre with Fr Laurence Freeman and talks about compassion in Islam. Gail gave me a lift to London Bridge. End of sewing bee.

A great time in Manchester. People’s museum , Jewish museum, Manchester Camerata at Winkworth gallery. Schoenstatt shrine, retreat at Laudato Si’ centre Salford. Warm welcome at All Saints Orpington. Psalm to Anglican chant went well. parry on Melcombe, Willan and Hurford on Song 34. Lunch outside at St John’s. Our final Prom of the season so dinner at Verdi restaurant. Saw Chris and Ferrolith and gallery Prommers. Grieg piano concerto beautifully played Bliss The Beatitudes. Wish the diction had been better!

Monday swim. Colette' meeting dominated by Cafod on Cop 30 and David Ko. Exc talk at PHoenix centre by David Morgan on Norwood resident who worked in Hollywood Oscar for cosumes for Ben Hur. Only connect, University challenge X 2, Mastermind, Call my bluff, Face the music.
Tuesday Liz upset about Guild dinner, swim, quiet time.
Tuesday set off at 8 to Orpington for the recall of the car. Tyres checked - we saw a video! To Beck Meth to practise and have apple strudel. Home again at 2.30. King at Brompton Oratory to see Newman's study and library incl ms of Elgar Gerontius.
