A great day

To UNACC Triniti not there so picked up Liz and took our ladder so I could put up the 3 pictures and change the clock (after 2 weeks!) back. Nice lunch. To Dulwich gallery and saw the new entrance and kids area and building from outside. Anna Ancher: painting light excellent film and some lovely works. Shop disappointing. Why did they not use the cornfield painting? Sainsburys. To Picturehouse West Norwood. the film “The Choral”. It’s moving and touching. I feel emotionally wrung out and Gerontius is my favourite choral work. Ranulph Fiennes excellent and the Alan Bennett script is perfect. Hamza's wildlife series so good.

Saturday To Shabbat service at South London liberal synagogue and Liz was invited to read a prayer. Georgina spoke about hurricanes in the Caribbean. Did you know there are synagogues in Jamaica? Fell asleep watching the recording of the Lady Mayor's parade! Oh dear this is grumpy organist again! To Mass this evening. Good points communion under both kinds, it’s nearer to home (I used to go there quite often) St Carlo Acutis exhibition readings well read BUT 1 priest shouting into mic 2 recordings of hymns played but no hymnbooks (the newsletter says join in as much as you can) if I want to listen to recordings I can choose my own 3 prayers were not clear at all 4 everything seemed to be too quick. It’s no wonder we did not respond well 5 the homily was basically unintelligible. If you cannot understand what is being said … I took my hearing aids out and enjoyed some quiet. Oh yes I should mention the child screaming most of the time. It’s a shame. Why are priests coming from other countries not given some basic training? How to use a mic? What pace works? How to encourage a response? End of rant St Andrew Thornton Heath. Watched part of Dame Patricia Routledge's funeral from Chichester cathedral. Lovely choices. Royal British legion festival of remembrance Prince George for the first time. All went well until the service - no organ, only one hymn Abide with me, one clergyman. Pop singers singing offkey. Good presenter and she sang We'll meet again well. Bruce came.

Remembrance Sunday to Beck Methodist played Solemn melody, Thalben-Ball Elegy, Willan on St Anne, When I am laid in earth and Nimrod. Missed the We will remember them and it's very odd not having the 2 minute silence between Last Post and Reveille. Sermon was good and told us about the sinister King's Army which is homophobic. To the 3 pm service at the Minster Blatchly, Bainton and Faure beautifullysing by the choir of 50! Stephen Disley played Crown Imperial at the end. Nice chat to the Civic Mayor and the Bishop.
