Last night

Turned out wet. Got parked near Nat History museum in good time for rehearsal which went very smoothly. Back to door 2 and interviewed by the Telegraph about the flags dispute.  We went to the recording of The Choir about Parry's Jerusalem  and I met David Owen Norris in the street and complimented hom in his famous chords on Proms Extra! Full marks to Petroc on Radio 3 for mentioning that we are gallery prommers! As Auntie Flo said it was a once in a lifetime experience and we really enjoyed it! What a wonderful concert - full of lovely music. Florez was superb and brilliant acting. Great to see 16 young singers in Serenade to Music (definitely a desert island piece and we recently saw the score and photos at Leith Hill Place where RVW grew up). Thank you to all our fellow Prommers in the gallery (which alas Katie dd not mention but Sakari did) and to all the staff at the Hall. Linda came up specially to say hello. How proud Mum and Dad would have been - they are comparing notes in heaven. Here are my stats - 65 Proms out of a possible 87 and 41 PreProm talks and events! Really memorable Sam Wanamaker playhouse Purcell and Mahler 3 with Haitink but so many wonderful concerts. The greatest music festival in the world! Took the cakes from last night to church where they were much enjoyed. Bessie asked me where my duster was so I said "here it is on the organ console!" I played Jerusalem, Pomp and circumstance No 1 and RVW on Hyfrodol and Rhosymedre. Practised anthems for next few weeks beforehand. Barnard tune for "Go forth and tell" not known so Rev Fran quite rightly suggested we try verse 1 again! Next time we do it to Woodlands I think! Travel to church - train stopped at Whyeleafe South as no staff at Caterham to dispatch trains so we were told to get off and wait. 3 people went for the 407 bus so I got to church 30 minutes later than normal. Fortunately trains running back but a 20 minute wait at Purley to change trains! Evensong at St John Upper Norwood Stanford in B flat O for a closer walk with God by Grayston Ives. We ate lunch in the garden - lamb and chips - delicious.
