Vigil for Gaza
Chat to Ann when she was cooking. Early swim. Took Liz to bus to go to crafts class Dementia Arts. To Foreign office. TFL took me right round the block and I could have just crossed Whitehall so I was late. Met Tamkin - he had been upstairs. The vigil was beautiful and simple. Michael Rosen poem about the children hit home. A Marty Haugen song was not well lead and May the choirs of angels started too high. I sat in my folding chair and sang loudly to try and get the pitch of the verses right! We were given an olive branch. Nice to see Fr Joe Ryan and several people I know. I met Christopher Howse who writes in the The Tablet near Victoria. Met Liz at Kent House and tried to get tea (garden centre closed) and discovered hub cap was gone. Saw nurse at GPs about my ears and antibiotics ordered. ToCranston Rd and the hubcap was still there where I had noticed it! Foolishly I put it back on. Went to pick up Henry from the school Barracudas and sat in the garden and sketched a bit. He was hungry. When I got to Dennis's hubcap was gone! Honda should have fixed them in place. University challenge and Fake or fortune on Renoir. I was exhausted and dropped off!
Tuesday29 July. Liz to Guys. Swim. Watching the Lionesses victory parade. down the Mall. Why are we not told what the Marines and RAF band are playing? I suspect the commentators don’t know or don’t care? Animal Park X 2. To quiet time 7 there. Lemon drizzle cake. Took the teapot and milk jug from the china set, tug of war rope (bought for Catenians and never used!). Jan read a passage about not being bored. Sewing bee and end of Professionals baking.
Wed 30 July Swim, organ practice, took stuff to St Christopher’s hospice shop, continued to weed books. To David Lean cinema to see NT a streetcar named desire. Turns out I saw this Young Vic production at the cinema in 2014. Not the same with only one hearing aid functioning. The other one broke!
Thurs 31 July Liz went to to St Thomas for injection to relieve pain in her legs. I went to Guys and got a new right hearing aid so very pleased to be able to hear properly. To Southwark cathedral Peace doves beautiful and simple peaceful music by Richard Harper. To St Thomas to meet Liz. Challenged penalty notice from Bromley parking. Christian Muslim forum zoom Scottish Interfaith network. To Prom BBC Phil Martin Frost. He played Copland and Shaw concertos then got us to sing Gounod Ave Maria to his accompaniment! Brilliant! The conductor Joshua Weilerstein is excellent - one to watch. Elsa Barraine Symphony no 2. Stunning Rachmaninov Symphonic dances. Late prom 90th birthday of Arvo Part. Estonian philharmonic chamber choir with drums and dancing. Rach Vespers 2 items superbly sung. Saw Michelle beforehand. Rita and her two grandsons afterwards.
Friday Aug 1 to UNACC which has had a 2 month reprieve. Pork for lunch. Collected Liz's glasses and to Lidl. Prom Vivaldi and Bach on TV. Father Brown a repeat. Splendid prom from the Glasshouse on BBC4 Mendelssohn Lobgesang conducted by Dinis Sousa and Bach concerto played by Denis Frey. Rev was very funny. Secret life of trees.
Sat Aug 2 woke at 5 and slept until 10.45! SM from Bose was lovely. To David Lean cinema to see The Salt Path which we enjoyed. Gillian Anderson started in A streetcar named desire 2014 that we saw on Wednesday. A great actress. The museum was open! Who knew there is a forge in Addington and clocks and bells were made here now moved to Surrey. Sean has arrived! Went to Mass at Addiscombe Derrick Phillips RIP. Listening to Mahler 2 from the Proms. Fascinating interview with Nicky Spence tenor.
SunAug 3 Played at St Francis of Assisi Petts Wood with Fr Stephen Niechchial Bliss Fanfare Purcell on old 100th, Couperin Benedictus, Nardone setting with choir, Nun danket Karg-Elert. The psalm was sung unaccompanied. Picked up Liz and Sean at Petts Wood station and to Chapter One. Excellent food and service. I had sardines, beef and cherries with chocolate. Not so keen on the non-alcoholic gin and tonic. Indicator on car suggested tires were down so I rang Honda and it's OK to drive it. When got home Sean helped get the caps off the tyres and pumped them all up. Had a rest. Animal park, Antiques roadshow, cricket test.
Monday Aug 4 took Sean to Dunraven school and Liz to bus to go to dementia arts crafts. Long chat to Ann today would have Paul's Mum's 106th birthday. Aerobics did not swim as pool very busy. Liz had nails done. Prayers for Thursday on powerpoint. One call insurance at last. Imran did not ring back. Light on dashboard still on. He says its OK to drive. Picked up Sean. Profiteroles for dinner. Prom saw Richard Carter. Moved down to Grand tier box. Boulez interesting arrangement. Mahler Klagende lied too dark to follow score. University challenge.
